The food is really good but the poor service caused the lower ratings. Malaysian/Singaporean food here is quite authentic. I came because I recently got hold of a Tastecard which gives me 50% off the mains. Even though the website doesn't state that booking in advance is compulsory, it is for them. If they see this review, maybe they should notify tastecard to update the website. Anyway, they were kind enough to let us off. The food portions were quite small, but with the discount, it was worth it since it tasted very delicious and authentic. I wonder if the portions are bigger if you don't use a tastecard. The low rating is because service here is not very good. The first time I came, there was no other customers, so food came fast. A Romanian waitress I think was very nice, but by 9 +, this Asian man stands by our table shouting at another waitress 'you can finally start cleaning up once the customers leaves '. Very subtle way of telling us to get out. quite rude really. They're supposed to close at 10.30 I think?! The second time I came I brought colleagues and they too were surprised by the slow and rude service by *some* of the staff. It's a good thing that there is the discount and the good food, or else I wouldn't come back. They also run a 25% off mains at certain times see attached picture.
Great presentation of food and the taste of the food was great. However, sambal was cold. It seems to have been taken out of the fridge and served. Tried to mix is with the rice for warmth. I find the sambal to be key in nasi lemak so although the other components were good - the sambal lowered my satisfaction. Would suggest that the sambal be hotter in temperature and less diluted. Banana fritters or Pisang goreng was delicious and would have it again. Overall, wouldn't visit again but there were some parts of the meal that were enjoyable
Nice food reasonable price. We had pekking duck which is very nice. Also mee goreng / nasi goreng both nice as well.
We have been here plenty of times. The food, though very limited to choose from, was delicious on all the previous occasions expect for the last time we were here. It took the waitress about half hour to take our orders and another 40 mins before the food eventually arrived at our table. The Nasi Goreng that we ordered was extremely bad and missing the traditional omelette. Following our meal, the waitress took another half hour to sort out the payment coz she didn't know how to use Tastecard.
Great food. Quite authentic Asian dishes. The staff are acommendating and ready to help. The two of us ordered four courses and they exceeded our expectation. Already talking about another visit.
Fab meal in this restaurant last night... was a Saturday night and yes we were the only ones in it... so we received very good service from the staff working here... the food was fab.. ordered a malaysian/Chinese set menu for two... more than enough.. competitively priced.. would definitely recommend.
We dined as a group of 8 on a Saturday night and had a lovely linen set private table. The food was excellent and good value. The service was attentive with lots of time to enjoy the food and company.
Decent food and not bad value. It's just a very odd environment - eating authentic nasi goreng in what's effectively a hotel breakfast room is just a bit weird.
A reasonable taste of Singapore and Malaysia in Birmingham. Nicely situated in the Copthorne Hotel. A range of dishes at fair prices.
Service was bad and We were the ONLY customers in the rest on a Friday night. Not an authentic Singaporean food at all. Not recommended !!
