Visited for first time today at lunchtime & came away very impressed with atmosphere, beer choice 11 hand pumps!! & there was Adams Ghost Ship 0.5% alcohol great when you are driving & really nice. Had no food but lovely service & would have no hesitation about going again. Top marks, try it,
Went for Sunday lunch after seeing recommendations for the vegan roast. Was very disappointed, the yorkshire pudding was more like a bread roll, the veg tasted like cheap frozen. The potatoes were the worst part, barely roasted and not had not been quality checked, full of black bits. The seitan just tasted of tomato. My friends meat roast was a bit better but not by much.
Love this pub from Castle Rock. Excellent selection of beers. The sessional pale ale was particularly nice on this trip. Staff always friendly and helpful. Historical interior as located in a former bakery.Food: 4/5
Sunday dinner was superb. Ginger sponge was cracking although please don't microwave the custard in the bowl as bowl was too hot to handle Service and atmosphere is great. Fabulous choice of beers, even decent alcohol free.Food: 5/5
Odd place. They obviously like beer so the choice isn't bad, whether it's cask or keg or even cans but the welcome you get is never short of flat. I've loved in Notts for around 2-3 years and throughout that time, I keep trying to venture out to these guys to give them my business but each and every time, it's painful; and it's literally EVERY TIME... The staff most, not all are awful and I honestly don't think they even realise it. Genuinely, I'd rather a friendly face that's awful at pouring beer than a place that has a decent line up but grumpy faces behind the bar. I love craft beer and I'm forgiving in character but I think the only reason this place is still going is...where else do you go within the vicinity or maybe they do good food??
Went for a Sunday lunch. Excellent meal. Good choice and good service. Add the wide choice of ales and drinks, and you can't go wrong. Parking: Tiny carpark is difficult to access, so use the 2-hour free carpark opposite.
This pub used to be a bakery, hence the name, it is part of the ever growing Tynemill group which normally stands for really well kept beers and wholesome pub food, the Bread and Bitter is no exception. The beer range is always impressive with the Castle Rock selection plus London Pride and rotating guests. The pub has a lovely relaxed atmosphere, dogs are welcome and children in the eating area. The staff are exemplary, the slightly older members being very much into music, which means live music every other Tuesday and a splendid vinyl evening. The food is always very good, although the portion of peas which accompany the excellent fish and chips could do with being a tad larger. All in all this is a little gem of a pub and the locals are lucky to have it.
What a great pub. Feels like an old bakery and serves loads of good Castle Brewery beer. Did not have any food but what I saw looked like plenty of good pub grub.Service: 5/5
We turned up early evening on Friday. They had a good system where the booked tables had signs on with the time and so we could sit at one that wasn't booked until 2 hours later. It was easy to order and pay at the bar. The staff are friendly, the service was good, we didn't have to wait long for the meal. We read the left lion which is available free. The atmosphere was buzzing, family friendly, group meals. All welcome. Vegetarian options: I had a veggie dinner which I really enjoyed. It was gluten free. It was really tasty and filling. It was a curry with sweet potato and rice.
Great food selection, with a damn fine curry. Very tender chicken! Warm apple and chilli cider was phenomenal. Very dog-friendly place. A better than average gastro pub well suited for families and other large groups. The entrance is a little off from the street front and is possible to miss. Fascinating history of the building, being an old bakery and all.
