Brasserie Vacherin - Croydon

As first impressions go, our waiter didn't know what a white wine spritzer was and, after a rather long wait we ordered our food. As my friends and I were on the clock, parking in this part of Croydon isn't cheap, the wait wasn't really convenient. Staff were friendly enough, but first impressions count and instead of ordering starters and mains, we didn't risk it (its a max of two hours of parking) and only ordered a main course.

Waited 1 hour before starter (and children's meals) came out. Left after 2 hours as only just finished main. Dessert in takeaway box. Chefs all had a massive argument in kitchen which we all listen too. Overpriced children's meal for a half bowl of pasta and one scoop of ice cream. Sunday evening visit. Won't be back. Shame as a couple of the waiting staff were lovely!

Disappointing Mother's Day Lunch. We waited an hour and a half for our starters which were received with great delight. However, the mains were disappointing. The meat was fatty and the lobster bland...no one enjoyed it. We had to leave before dessert because service took so long. The waitress was very apologetic and offered to take the cost of the dessert and service charge off our final bill (which I wouldn't have paid anyway) but the food was sub par and not the treat I was hoping for my mum and mother in law. We won't be back!

My partner and I went in for lunch on a Sunday three weeks ago. The food was OK, but it turned pricey when we realised the main course was the meat and that was it: no veg, no salad or anything. And no heads up from the waiters upon ordering either. You are, of course, very welcome to order a side order for and extra £4. My mussels were nice, and I would have still given the place 3 stars. The reason for only 2 is the manager on duty that day: 1. He made a couple of uncalled-for quite off-putting attempts of a joke when we, not only did not ordered wine, but asked for tap water. I come in for the food, alcohol should not be an expectation. If it is, please keep it to yourself. 2. The B.O. smell around him was so strong that, if he were a cartoon, it would be a thick green cloud with little flies following him everywhere. For the love of everything that is edible, shower daily!!!!

Food was good though unfortunately I had to wait for a very long time for the first course and throughout the evening due to absent kitchen staff that evening. But, front of house did well to overcome it and compensated me generously with complimentary wine. Nice atmosphere and free wine. Will definitely try it again.
