Brasserie Max
"Brasserie Max is the calm amongst the buzz of the independent shops of Seven Dials. The interior is elegant, with polished woods, cosy alcoves and a long pewter bar at the end of the restaurant, ideal for a martini or glass of Champagne. Outside, sit on the terrace on Monmouth Street and watch the world go by.The restaurant serves brasserie classics alongside more modern, European dishes. Simplicity is key, with a focus on quality, seasonal produce, often coming from Pusey Farm in the Cotswolds. Popular for pre and post theatre dining, a set menu and traditional afternoon tea are also served every day."

For my second trip to London, afternoon tea was a must. After considerable research, Brasserie Max was on several lists for Best Afternoon Tea and the price point was right. The environment is so classy and high brow. I loved the continuity of teas, china and soap/lotion Tall Trees - do yourself a favor, and visit the restroom; the hand soap and lotion smell divine! Our hostess was so helpful. She made several great recommendations and allowed us to smell the teas before we ordered and we made the right tea choices because of those sniffs Tall Trees and Mythical Creatures. Mythical Creatures was the absolute best tea I have ever had. I drank two pots so quickly I surprised myself. The scone with clotted cream and jam was heavenly. The sandwiches were pretty good, but I don't love cream cheese or egg salad so I went into it knowing I might not love all of the sandwiches. The pastries were fantastic! Absolutely fantastic! The strawberry tartlet, the peach and marscapone mousse, and the lemon macaron were outstanding. Again, everything was great. The service, the tea!, the pastries, the scones, and believe it or not the restrooms. For a first afternoon tea experience, this American would give Brasserie Max two big thumbs up!
has a nice atmosphere with the tables by the window offering a nice view of the street. the afternoon tea was priced a bit high at 45 £ pp while the desserts were 11 per slice. Not sure if its worth these costs, but a its a good spot to grab a cup of tea.Food: 4/5
My family and I visited Brasserie Max for afternoon tea and had the most lovely time! The staff were incredible and were SO kind with my 18 month old daughter, providing her with coloring pages to entertain her while we had our tea. The food was delicious and we were able to relax and enjoy everything due to the kindness of the hosts and servers. Thank you for such a wonderful experience! We will be back next time we visit London!
It was an awesome afternoon tea. Everything was spot on. Well located and easy to find. Service was the best and food lovely. Will deffinately be going again. Thank you.Food: 5/5
For afternoon tea priced at £45 per person, this experience was slightly subpar. We were kindly greeted at the front door, where they held our coats and bags and shortly seated us after. After we were seated, we were served water and were pleased that the waitress made mention of our dietary restrictions that we listed in the reservation. After a few minutes, a different waiter seemed like he was the manager? came to ask if we were ready to order, to which we responded yes and after asking if we can order “a la carte” he proceeded to condescend us and said that doing so would cause a long wait time because the restaurant was "busy" despite not having more than 7 or 8 small parties and tons of empty tables. We brushed it off and decided to order all the traditional items along with the tea despite just wanting scones and tea. The tea was really good but we didn’t like that they just leave the tea steeping in the pot, which caused it to quickly become bitter and undrinkable. The desserts on the top tier were all quite tasty and we enjoyed them. We didn’t enjoy the sandwiches on the other hand because the bread was cold and stale. The scones were hit or miss: some were really dry while others were more moist. Overall, I don’t think I’d return to this establishment unless I couldn’t find another reservation for afternoon tea and I’d only order the tea, desserts, and scones.
This was my first afternoon experience, and it exceeded my expectations. The staff was super friendly and attentive. They swapped out one of the sandwiches for another flavor because I don't like salmon. The waiter recommended the jasmine tea, and omg, was it delicious. The restaurant was very clean and cute. I would recommend this place.
Wonderful experience for our first high tea in London! Well worth the price, we were stuffed / this was our lunch and we could barely finish everything!Food: 5/5
Beautiful decor and ambiance. Really appreciated small gestures, going to the gents and returning to the table and your napkin had been beautifully refolded and placed on the table. Really good varied menu. The sirloin had to be sent back as it was too fatty and sinewy and the rib eye pork was tough. However, the South African waiter/maitre d was wonderful in turning the situation around to our satisfaction. Wonderful service by him. All other courses were superb.
Beautiful place, tasty afternoon tea with great flavours. We loved every second of this experience. Outstanding service and our waiter Martha went above and beyond to make this occasion special for us. Thank youFood: 5/5
As someone who goes to afternoon tea multiple times per year this remains my favourite budget friendly option. They are very knowledgable about allergens gluten in this case, the service is excellent, and the food and tea are very good. When I've been with a group where we have different dietary restrictions they've been able to accommodate with no problems and it never feels like you're getting a substandard version of what everyone else is getting.
