A really beautiful arts and crafts style house on the shore of Coniston Water. Former home of the artist and social reformer,  John Ruskin. Road access is a bit tight down a single track lane so why not come over by lake steamer from Coniston? You could even use the beautiful Gondola, a real steam powered vessel.  Brantwood has it's own jetty where the lake steamers will stop on request.

What an interesting place to visit. The introductory film is a must.  I usually find them boring but not this one. The house and contents and the glimpses into the mind of such a brilliant person were fascinating.  And do visit the cafe!! Sausage rolls and scones to die for!!!

Lovely place to visit - interesting exhibitions, with arts and crafts on display. Brantwood itsel provides a fascinating insight into the life and works of John Ruskin ... all this and a great cafe with a wonderful view. What more can you ask for?

A delightful way to spend an afternoon overlooking Coniston, the gardens are well worth a walk around but make sure you have suitable footwear and certainly leave time to visit the Ice House!
