The old station building had been restored into a very good cafe and museum, friendly staff, it's open weekends and bank holidays, the train from Ryde to Shanklin stops there so easy to get to,
We wanted to visit the signal box but it was closing. This was at about 3pm or soon after. We had a cuppa in the station cafe, which is quite atmospheric, and there is an exhibition there too about the history of the line. The cafe shuts at 4pm.
Absolutely fantastic experience for any train enthusiast. George can show you the fully restored signal box and take you through all of the procedures that a signalman would go through for trains coming in and out of the station. Everything is very well thought through. Highly recommended!
A wonderful place to visit with an exhibition room of railway memorabilia signal box tours and a vintage tea room well worth a visit
An excellent visit if you are I resented in railways. The signal box your was £2.50 per adult and children under 11 are free. Very informative talk by a volunteer with lots of knowledge. Looked at the small museum and then had a cup of tea and Eccles cake! Easily accessible by train because it’s at the station!
