Stayed in Wagtail Lodge. Beautiful surroundings and private hot tub next to a babbling brook and dark sky star gazing. Right on the Pennine Way and other forest walks. Discovered the Three Kings standing stones less than a mile from the lodge. Nearest shop is 8 miles away but fast roads, not a problem. Hosts very welcoming.

A large and well-kept site and a good base for exploring the area. The touring pitches are level and well-drained. However the showers are shabby and dirty. There was only one toilet disposal point which had no running water to clean out. There was nowhere to fill with fresh water - we were shown a pipe behind the reception but it didn't reach and had no adapter. The nearby walks along the river are amazing for scenery and wildlife but at £24 per night it is too expensive for a cold, wet January with limited facilities. I would suggest either closing completely in winter or offering a discount.
