I decided to walk from Barnham Station to the forest which was lovely. Encountered cows, sheep and even saw a deer en route. I was expecting to find squirrels in the forest but sadly didn't find any. The bluebells are beautiful to see and the forest is a lovely walk but no bees in sight either. I did see a few smaller birds and quite a few Robins.
According to the National Trust website, the 3,500 acre Slindon Estate consists of woodland, farmland, downland and picturesque village, all connected by 25 miles of footpaths and bridleways.
Free to use public car park, can be tricky to find a spot when the weather is nice, but overall not a problem. Beautiful walks for beginners and the more experienced, with fantastic scenery. There is even a little box with maps provided free by the national trust. Please, if you take your dog's walking here keep them on the lead, before there's a movement to ban dog's. I've seen many dog owners allowing their dogs to jump fences into adjacent farm land where there is livestock. There is an abundance of view points and scenery to explore, but for the full magic of this woods go when the bluebells are out.
Used to walk here as a child every week with my grandparents. Still one of my favourite places to go for a walk. The pathways are quite “stony”, so it’s never TOO muddy, unless there’s a proper downpour, you can get away with some old trainers, if you go off the “common” tracks, the mud can be rather deep. There are a few areas to park around the “horseshoe”, so don’t worry if you can’t park at the main car parks. Great place for the dogs, avoid for wheelchair users, unless you have something specific for cross-country as the paths are very bumpy at parts when dry.
Lovely place to walk my dog. Easy parking and easy to get to. No bluebells yet too early but you can see the leaves coming through and I really look forward to seeing them all bloom.
