Story

The Blue Strawberry Bistrot, situated just off the A12 in the village of Hatfield Peverel with its mainline railway station, is ideally located for both the busy executive wishing to enjoy a quality meal without travelling far off the beaten track as well as those who wish for a relaxed & memorable dining experience at a pace to suit.
This highly successful restaurant, one of the finest in Essex, has built its enviable reputation over the last 20 years, concentrating on quality food & service whilst still representing exceptional value for money.

The restaurant appears an understated rendered timber building from the front, but pull into the car park & all changes, the rear of the building has a beautifully kept heated covered patio area, complete with planted pots & bubbling water feature.

The restaurant entrance opens into a grand Victorian style conservatory which houses the reception & bar with its leather sofa & chairs.

Inside the restaurant itself the overwhelming impression is of stepping back in time, old etchings & prints on the walls, antique books & ornaments, beams, open fires & subdued lighting.

Reservations are advised & bookings are taken up to five weeks in advance.

We had the skate wing, plus the set menu of pork noodles and chicken. All is very delicious. The skate wing is very lightly battered, so the flesh is light and tender, not soaked in butter. It's a giant piece, perfectly paired with capers. Pork noodle is slightly too sweet for hubby's taste but he liked it nevertheless. Highly recommended.

A first visit to celebrate a birthday and pre wedding celebration for a friend. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending this lovely Bistro. Excellent service, staff were lovely and food superb . Plus, a special touch of a congratulations ice cream for the birthday girl and bride to be. Thank you all so much. Parking: Busy car park but options available very nearby so no problem.
The establishment is an excellent choice for both lunch and dinner. My wife and I celebrated our wedding dinner there and we return annually to enjoy multiple meals. The staff is highly professional and provides exceptional service. The meals are consistently prepared to perfection.Food: 5/5
Lovely looking place and lovely staff However we ordered whole lobster and for £47 expected a whole lobster it was tasty but very small the meat equated to roughly 4 king prawns when we questioned where the claws were we were told they were dressed on the plate! As frequent lobster eaters we know when there are claws and when they are missing. The staff knocked off 2 deserts to compensate. Had we not been in company and a special occasion I would have asked to speak to the chef in person to ask why he sent the waiter to lie to us about the missing claws! 1 of us had beef wellington that had a soggy pie bottom and one had steak that was rather chewy It was our first time at this restaurant and we were sadly disappointed
Had Sunday lunch today. Food was really good. My wife had pheasant, while I had roast sirloin of beef. At some restaurants you could hold the beef up and read a newspaper through it but not the Blue Strawberry. All beautifully cooked and tasty. Staff helpful, friendly, good fun but not intrusive. We thoroughly recommend the Blue Strawberry if you want a restaurant with a good atmosphere and good food.
A lovely restaurant with fabulous service for my Dad's 80th Birthday lunch. Really fresh tasty food, and a little extra surprise for the Birthday boy! Would always recommend the Blue Strawberry for a special occasion!Food: 5/5
Always a delight to eat here, such a nice setting and lovely staff, good wine and gin! and wonderful food. The chef's pie was steak & ale with stilton... the tart was from the specials, lobster bisque recommended by one of the lovely staff and it was delicious Food: 5/5
Went here for a friend's birthday, very accommodating and helpful. The service was really good, and the waiter was very funny too! The food was amazing, a little pricey, but the quality was worth it, we also had a 25% off voucher which helped! I had Duck with dauphonoise potatoes with a cherry, brandy & orange sauce, so tasty. They gave the birthday boy a birthday song at end with a candle on ice cream which was a nice touch. The champagne sparkler was a lovely drink, it didn't last long! Would recommend for a special occasion, which appeared to be the theme that night, think we were the third table for a birthday! Parking: They have a small car park, so it's luck if you get a spot, I believe there's a car park opposite but not sure if you pay Wheelchair accessibility: My friend was in a wheelchair they had accessibility at the side, and also the spinning door they can fold back in case door wasn't wide enough. They don't have a car parking spot for a wheelchair user though, so you have to hope there's room
Sunday lunch - couldn't fault it ! Staff met us at the door, showed us to our table, brought menus & water & took a drinks order . Our starters arrived promptly, very well presented and tasted delicious. Our main courses were also excellent lamb & vegetable pie and belly of pork. No space for desert this time ! The staff were impeccable, the service perfect and I'm really looking forward to a speedy return !
