Blue Anchor Inn

Story

The Blue Anchor Inn was established in 1380, making it possibly one of the oldest pubs in Wales. The pub has always had to adapt to the changing times, long gone has the tankard clanging merriment of this once thriving trading port. These days our focus is on our range of real ales and our renowned bar/restaurant food.

OUR ALES
The Blue Anchor has always been a forerunner in the promotion of real ale in South Wales. We were the first winner of the CAMRA pub of the year award back in 1983 and we have maintained our position to the present day by being included in the current 2012 CAMRA Guide.

Our current house beers include:
Theakstons Old Peculier
Wadworths 6X
Wye Valley HPA
Brains Bitter
and a guest beer

OUR FOOD
We opened our locally renowned restaurant, which seats up to 80 diners, in the early 1990’s. Since then we have been able to provide our customers with extremely popular Sunday lunches (booking usually essential) as well as our extensive and varied menus on Mondays to Saturdays (lunchtimes and evenings). Our wine list features quality, affordable, wines from around the world.

The Blue Anchor offers the choice of eating in our Restaurant or, more informally, downstairs in the bar. Wherever you choose to eat, our menus all have at their heart locally grown or reared produce, prepared to the highest standards by our expert team of chefs. Our team are specialists in producing quality, locally sourced and innovative dishes with an international flavour, as well as more traditional Welsh favourites. They are constantly looking to develop new and exciting dishes for our loyal customers.

we also welcome dogs in the main bar area.

A great pub - visited for lunch on a weekend. Menu was relatively basic but solid as expected of a pub. Drinks range was good with a decent ale selection. The pub itself is beautiful inside, with lovely decor and fires and the staff very nice and friendly. A true 'traditional' pub in terms of appearance, wish it was my local.

A great place to go for a quiet, quality drink in picturesque surrounding's, or a stunning meal with friends, family and colleagues. Whatever the occasion the Coleman family always provide a warm welcome with produce that will not dissapoint. Would highly recommend to anyone !!! One of the best pubs and restaurants in The Vale !

Absolutely love this place. Whether it’s a warm mug of coffee by the open fire on a winter afternoon, a large party of people or just the 2 for a meal, they never fail to impress. Such a friendly old pub, and the staff and the owner never fail to go that little bit further to make sure your visit is perfect. Have found a few patrons to be slightly pompous and snooty. I think there the newly rich to the area, and easily ignored.😄 The pub it’s self, which I believe is the oldest in Wales (the staff will fill you in with the history, if asked) is full of beauty, charm and warmth. I have friends from Cyprus, Spain and Germany, who when visiting, all insist there first and last days in Wales are spent here. This place is the cutest place to visit all year around, but holds a kind of magic around Christmas. For evening meals your always best to book in advance, rather than be disappointed.
