Nice place with great menu, coffee, wine and beer. Can get very busy and noisy particularly for weekend brunch. But still highly recommended. Suits everything from coffee for one whilst working using their wifi, through weekend family brunch to early evening drinks just wish the would install some sound baffling to reduce the din from exposed concrete walls and ceiling.
I was disappointed that it took 20mins to get a cup of coffee, after asking 3 times. Although the venue was busy, the staff were chatting to themselves behind the counter as opposed to serving customers. I also ate a tasteless muffin. I tried to attract the attention of the owner who ignored me and walked out, busy off on an errand. I sent in feedback via Twitter as there was nobody around to listen to me. The owner personally tweeted me defending his venue because everyone was rushed off their feet, called me a coward for not talking to him in person, and then blocked me from being able to respond will share the screenshots of the messages with anyone who asks. I sent my phone number in, but haven't heard back from anyone. This place does do tasty food and quite a nice coffee when you can get served, has a pleasant evening atmosphere reminiscent of a London bar on a Friday night, the wi-fi works intermittently and the staff can either be friendly or pretentious depending on the roll of a dice. They are nice to me when I walk in a suit, but if I'm wearing a hoodie look down their noses at me. Watch what you wear when you enter!
Very slow service, and when breakfast came I was confronted by a scrambled egg that had the appearance and consistency of rice pudding and a faintly cheesy flavour, cold bacon, and barely toasted toast......clearly the chef can't cook and the pleasent staff are over stretched. Not sure why anybody goes in there.
I think 'Black White Red' is a very good place for food however there is not much variety. Despite this i found my experience at the restaurant very pleasant it was not too busy and it was a nice peaceful atmosphere.
Nice coffee when it eventually arrived. I got terrible service. People who came in later were served first. Clientele very 'Winchester'.
Good menu, food and reasonable prices. A good casual atmosphere choice for Winchester.
