Visited 19/12/22 13.00 We only had food and drink but it was very good, especially the steak and ale suet crust pudding which 2 of us had. That was the nicest suet pastry I have had it was light not stodgy and the meat filling was tender, tasty and moist my friend agreed, don’t change a thing. Everyone else also enjoyed their meals the portion size was good. We sat outside in the marquee which had heaters as we had a dog and the bar was busy. The staff were all really friendly and helpful, it was a nice Tuesday lunch . The prices weren’t cheap, £17 average but in the present climate you can’t expect to pay a fiver for a decent lunch. We didn’t have deserts as we were full.We will be returning and I would recommend it to anyone especially if you like steak and ale suet crust pudding .
Went for our Christmas bash, just eating from the normal menu. I was not disappointed with the food, big portions and top quality. The waiting staff were polite and attentive, no mean feat considering the place was packed. I would definitely recommend eating there, priced at about mid range for pub food but definitely above standard for quality and quantity. I came away feeling very satisfied.
Absolutely love this place. ALL food was amazing, staff was super polite and went above and beyond what we asked. They quickly fitted us on a table even though they were very busy. Definitely reserve a table if you can. Good variety of drinks and the locals were all very nice too. Food & drinks: Loved the good variety of food. We ordered a lot of different meals and they came out quickly and we're of very high quality. Excited to go again.
Quite nice atmosphere but appalling food. If the portions are big, the quality is bad. One of the worst meal I ever had. And expensive too. I had skate but it was burnt on the top side, tasteless. The vegetables were not cooked. No flavour. No style in the presentation. Just a big blob of food. And what my husband and parents in law ordered was of the same level. Big portions but either burned or like a mass of gooey stuff. A good advise, avoid this place!
We had cooked breakfasts on the last day of our holiday. Polite, friendly staff and a speedy service. Food was delicious and hot. Downside was 4 small breakfasts, 1 large and 1 pancake dish with coffee or juice drinks was £101.Service: 5/5
First time I'd eaten here but won't be the last. Great food with lovely atmosphere and staff. A little pricey so may have to be a special occasionRooms: 5/5
Our first time here. Great value and portion sizes were massive. Was very busy felt a bit overlooked while eating. Service was greatService: 5/5
Enjoyed our meal at the Black Boys - generous portions, nice and hot, fair price, arrived in good time and served with a smile. Our chosen beer was slightly 'off', and my husband was thanked for bringing it to the attention of staff. The barrel was nearly empty, it was explained to us, and we were swiftly brought new drinks. Excellent service! Noteworthy details: Fine historic pub, its name might cause comment but should be kept as it too is historic and should cause nobody offence. Did feel that its contemporary decor and modern bar fittings clashed with the age of the pub - they didn't seem the right fit for its ancient beams and other architectural features.
The food and service was brilliant. We walked in without a booking and were seated almost immediately. Prices are a bit steep but the portions are large.
The food was absolutely delicious. Can't wait to go back and try something else off the menu.
