Building and decor 50s mock Tudor pub, furniture tables and chairs from 60s but hospitality and food more up-to-date from 70s. Poor food poorly prepared and delivered by unhelpful staff and management. Good luck if you must go there.
He Paul, it's now 3 years since we stayed with you & Helen & George. We came to you for t consecutive years when we came to.the big Championship dog show. We always had the same room in the corner of the courtyard and it was ideal for us to take our dog out in the morning. We had the little cream chow chow and I don't think she liked George much as she was a diva. Unfortunately she died last year and we miss her terribly. I remember Helen was diabetic like me hope she is keeping well. We always enjoyed coming to the Bell and don't understand why people complain at the prices you charge. Your staff were always friendly and we always looked forward to our breakfast. Give George a big cuddle from us. Best wishes Mary Robbins County Durham
Popped in for lunch after walking. It was quite but the staff were friendly and helpful. It has a lot of character. I had the Halloumi and Hummus burger it was delicious and very fresh. Not the cheapest place to eat but lovely food.Service: 4/5
Overpriced by a huge margin. Rooms were on the small side, but also not well maintained. One of my room windows had a old broken latch and could be opened properly. A 20 minute job at most to fix. Why not do it. For £85 a night I expected a bit better. Average food, above average prices. If you like quirky, old, creaky and worn out; maybe. Unimpressive but the only pub in town.
Probably worth 5 stars as it's a really nice place but I've only been in the bar and garden. Bar man is helpful and quick to serve, the beer is well kept. Not had food but saw other people eating and the food looked and smelt lovely. Hopefully go back and give it a try and then update this review.
After staying here for 4 nights last week last found pub cosy and staff good. But room very dated and no heating was on. We had to put on electric radiator. Food was very expensive. 3 slices garlic bread £4.00 almost large glass Rose Rose £7.90 how they can carry these prices is totally unacceptable. I wouldn't stay again ok for a quick pint.
Popped in for some food on Sunday, menu suggest home prepared dishes. This was not the case . Frozen pizza was the first alarm bell. £10 for a burger seemed OK but this was without chips! Burger was not home made. My daughter had Nachos which when we asked the staff to leave out the sour cream we were told they use yogurt? Guacamole was awful and there was barely any melted cheese on it. Stella had a very funny tang to it and was like no Stella I have ever tasted. Basically posh pub prices but not posh pub quality. We could have travelled 2 miles on and eaten at the half way or the red house for pretty much the same money. You can serve food on a wooden board with chips in a tin pot but if the foods bad it makes no difference, it's still bad.
Absolutely FILTHY in there! Walked in, had a pint of peroni, and one pint of sprite, for a grand total of £8.25!! After walking in we decided it would be best not to eat a meal from there. Not hard to get a rag and wipe down the tables and all the dead flies around the window sills. Very smelly too!
Excellent lunchtime food We had a pizza between 2 and it was plenty and very tasty. Our friends had a ciabatta which had a terrific amount of chicken. Sadly the Good Old Boy ale you was not as good.
My sister and her husband had their wedding reception here a few years ago, and this weekend hired it again to celebrate the birth of their first child. Both were really good events, in part thanks to the friendly staff and great food. Highly recommended for private events!
