Restaurant from hell! We dine out regularly at a variety of restaurants. Occasionally there is a problem, usually resolved quickly with an apology and a smile, but most times we are thoroughly satisfied. Smugglers Haunt, however, stands head and shoulders above all the others for poor quality overpriced food, and poor service. We have experienced cold food, undercooked food, horrible grey fish within the beer batter coating (they used to serve nice white cod but now use haddock with skin on while still charging over £12!). Last visit (which will indeed be the last visit), our starter plates were removed with one hand while mains delivered with the other. We felt force fed, and given this was a Saturday and we wanted to spend a leisurely evening dining out, we felt we were just being taken as a cash cow - here's your food, eat up pay up any get out!! The waitress empathized but just said mains are cooked as soon as starters are taken out. They just don't get it at this restaurant - treat customers well, time the food delivery well, and customers will stay longer, spend more, and return - its basic stuff, but lost on these clowns. And the food is quite expensive for what you get, so no excuses valid!

really lovely place to eat, if anything the waitress came over a smidge too much but she did a really great job at helping us feel welcome. the food was absolutely impeccable and I love that you could get free refills of chips. only down side is it was a bit on the pricier side but the food was more than worth it

It's a very basic, no frills restaurant. Staff are friendly but as with most restaurants in England, poorly trained. Steaks are ok, lamb looked better, burgers are a safe bet. Salad dressing is from a manufactured mix. The kitchen cannot supply oil and vinegar to dress your own. Beer selection is typical of a chain and the wine should be avoided unless you don't care. I went with pensioners, who like that sort of place.

Popular restaurant just opposite Sainsburys in Ferndown. Good parking and wheelchair friendly. Wide menu choice and not too expensive. Staff always helpful but gets very busy at peak periods so booking advisable.

We were not impressed with the service at all, had a wait for our drink order to be taken only then another wait for our food ordered to be taken, a member of staff come in her coat as going of shift said that she was helping so we didn't have to wait any longer.Once we had our food we were enjoying our meal with the music only then did the atmosphere change for the worse. The door from the kitchen was opened and the very loud music filled the area with staff swearing and singing loudly. We did stay for a dessert as our time had been unpleasant. On paying for our meal the member of staff said out loud to another member of staff the machine has frozen. To which she said that could mean you have no funds to pay. Myself and Husband couldn't believe what we were hearing let's just say we will not be returning in the future.
