I've been having lessons with Richard for over a year and a half now. He's brilliant and has been an immense asset to my guitar playing journey. There seems to be no end to his knowledge of guitar playing. He's clearly got a very academic background in high level music theory, but is also well up to speed on all techniques and many musical styles. His lessons are upbeat and relaxed, he doesn't intimidate you with his amazing playing ability and he's got an immense resource of lesson material. He can teach laid back acoustic, jazz, rock or metal... all highly effectively... He's also got a good sense of humour. Whet ever level you are at, give him a try.

As an adult acoustic guitar beginner, I'm finding Richard to be a great teacher - loving the classic songs we're learning, and enjoying how each new song pushes me to learn something new and reinforce something old. Helps that he's a nice guy too, so lessons are always good fun.

I came to Richard as a total beginner; he quickly taught me the basics of playing in a fun and enjoyable way, it wasn’t long until he had me playing along to some of my favourite songs. A year in and I’ve learnt a vast array of songs, Richard is patient and encouraging, his lessons are enjoyable and entertaining and I highly recommend him.

Like a lot of people I had previously learnt the guitar from a friend showing me a few chords and strumming along to my favourite tracks. Unsurprisingly, I was not very good and had been meaning to take lessons for years. Having decided to actually find a teacher and take some lessons I have been very fortunate that my quick Google landed me on the Bath Guitar School website. My first lesson was great! Richard took the time to find out what music I liked and what song I ultimately wanted to play (predictably it was Blackbird by the Beatles). Richard asked what I knew already and explained the format of the lessons. This personable approach is, in my experience, a part of each lesson. Each lesson feels tailored to you. Lessons move as fast, or as slow, as I make progress. When I am struggling with something, Richard gives good tips and introduces new songs which helps me practice what I find challenging. But it does not feel like hard work and I have enjoyed each of my lessons. I am amazed by the progress I have made so far and wish I had found Richard and the Bath Guitar School sooner!
