About

Admission FREE.

We are open Monday - Saturday from 10 am, last admission 4.30 pm

Story

Bassetlaw Museum is run by Bassetlaw District Council which covers North Nottinghamshire, and includes the two market towns of Retford and Worksop.

The museum is situated in Retford town centre in Amcott House, an 18th century town house which retains many of its original features. The Percy Laws art gallery was built in 1994.

The refurbished museum was re-opened in 2008 with the inside of Amcott House completely transformed and with a new purpose built building housing Rural Heritage Centre.
The collections include local history, archaeology, decorative and fine art, agriculture, costume and textiles.

Mission

We are committed to the concepts of life long learning and the preservation of local heritage for the present and future generations to enjoy.

Products

We welcome enquiries and researchers and will be pleased to discuss with teachers how the museum and its collections might be able to help them.

Nice place to go for a short visit whilst in the area. Free parking for 30 mins outside on the road but probably need a 60 to 90 mins to have a good look around.

Tired exhibits, unimaginative displays. Interactive displays working poorly. Perhaps if more visited it would perk up.

Quirky but vety interesting local musuem with a lovy and well-presented view of gge development of Retford and the surrounding area. Some lovely insights into characters and events too giving a real feel for the community and it's background. Well worth a visit and even better as it is free. Help staff who let you just look around and soak up the information and displays.
