Barshaw Park

Story

Barshaw Park is in Paisley, Scotland. It has 55 acres of recreational parkland and garden areas which are open to the public.HistoryIn the early 20th century, the local council of Paisley was looking to create a public recreation area. A wealthy local family, the Arthurs, sold 55 acres of land to Paisley Burgh Council (now Renfrewshire Council) in 1911. Ground works were carried out at the site and the park opened on 15 June 1912.Barshaw House was included with the sale of the land. It is a mansion situated within the park and was the home of the Arthurs. The building over the years has been a private house, military hospital, care home and now luxury flats.AmenitiesThe park offers various amenities and activities for the general public. These include a boating pond, walled garden, bmx track, miniature railway, swing parks, municipal golf course and a small animal enclosure. Special events like funfair day and open gala days are hosted at the park.

Great park in a nice location. It's accessible from all directions. Lots of relaxation things for the whole family. It is a family friendly park with lots of space. The downside though is dogs roam around alot and you have to watch out for dog fouls.

Great for kids with the two play areas. Great for walking dogs too but the dog run is a mess, the gate is difficult to close/open and is not suitable for disabled or less able bodied folk as it is quite literally a boggy, muddy hill. Don't know why the old run was abandoned. In need of improvement. Would also be good if the cafe was dog friendly as they would make a killing. Imho the friendly Barshaw dog walkers make the park. As well as the families who bring their kids there. Lovely peace garden too but again due to lack of funding needs attention too.

Park is even better now that playground has been updated. Zip slide most popular with older children. Great to see the train back on. This park seems to have everything to keep children entertained.

Went on bank holiday Monday May. Expecting to see wee train and petting corner. Nope everything was off apart from cafe. Grass badly needing cut everywhere and rubbish everywhere on grounds. All the bins were over flowing. Couldn't see where we were walking half the time for the grass. Disappointed big much

Barshaw Park is a lovely place to go for a quick stroll with some nice views from the top of the hill. Great space for dog walking and a reasonable sized play area. A great location to enjoy a sunny afternoon!
