Love the brutalist architecture. I always wanted to see this place. Didn't disappoint. Even though this is concrete, it is just a well thought out place for people to come together on a large scale, whether it's simply living or having time out and relaxing. It was a great place to visit. The central area with gardens is a must-see.
Brilliant venue. The Barbican looks awful from the outside but inside is fantastic. So spacious. The theatre is excellent, lots of space even when full. Kiss me Kate was superb!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Well, I believe these must be the most expensive council houses in London and the entire UK. It’s a very odd and interesting place at the same time. It reminds me of USSR architecture—strong, bold, and brutal Obviously a must-visit place. P.S. The Chris Botti concert was terrific!
An absolutely beautiful place! I came here for the first time for my graduation ceremony and I loved it, the way the graduation ceremony works inside is very straightforward and there is staff everywhere to assist, I found it very easy to navigate and had such a fantastic time. On Tuesday when I came it was 30°c and sunny! Was so lovely seeing the Barbican Centre in the sunshine, I love the brutalist architecture and how well maintained the grounds is, the different areas you can visit are so relaxing, I love the parts near the water as it’s just so gorgeous and the water looks lovely. I will definitely be coming here again for different events and even just to sit by the water, the brutalist style waterfall was beautiful to look at too, who would’ve thought those 1970s buildings could look so pretty?
Made the last outside cinema showing of the season. 3 varied food vendors and very lush green garden at bar area before the main event. Not a great choice is good and not cheap but ok to fill a gap or wet your pipe. Nice banqueting seats but regulars bought cushions and blankets. Get there early to avoid missing crisps at bar and better seats. Some reserved seats for members I think. The wireless headphones worked well and friendly service from all staff right to the end... inducing good directing to find the way out as we excited a different way to the entrance. Deffo worth a visit and revisit.
Built after the Blitz, the brutalist architecture is a scar in the heart of London. A labyrinth of concrete, ugly, dark, and horrible to look at! It has two art galleries, two theatres, three cinemas, a concert hall and a tropical conservatory, a Bar Martini Bar, and 3 restaurants: The Barbican Kitchen is located on the ground floor; the prices are acceptable, but no quality. Is a caffè which serves food. The Barbican Bar & Grill is located on level 1, where you can have an expensive Burger, a couple of salads, and plant-based food. And the Barbican Brasserie, located on level 2. You can have a 2-course meal for around 30£, or a 3-course meal for circa 35£. The menu is very limited, you need to book in advance and is not up to the price. My advice: Eat before you go! You can have a drink outside when the weather is nice. The artificial lake is the only decent place in that architectural monstrosity and gives you a sense of relaxation. A bit like a tree in the desert... The concert hall has a great acoustic and throughout the year several of the greatest names in the musical universe perform there. I go quite often! Lately, I've been privileged to watch Herbie Hancock, Kodo Japanese drums and Sérgio Mendes... Despite the quality of most of the shows, the space outside the auditorium is depressing: dark and cold. The tip is: Don't go too early!
I didn't know there was such a place in London. At first the architecture scared me, it reminds me a bit of the architecture of eastern countries. The longer I was here and explored the surroundings, the more the atmosphere of the place absorbed me. The complex, where everything is together, schools, theater, cafes, luxury housing is special, interesting. Like a city within a city. It's worth seeing.
We saw Kiss Me Kate. This is a hilarious high octain giod old fashioned Broadway musical. Absolutely faultless. Huge cast and great orchestra. Only on for the summer. So grab a seat while you can.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Awesome to see a show here, no bad seats. Good facilities. If you’re a Banksy fan there’s a protected piece just around the corner!Visited onWeekday
Excellent tour from our guide Oliver. He was funny, knowledgeable and relaxed. I had been here a few times on my own but really benefited from the tour which is reasonably priced. Also got food in the kitchen which was pretty solid.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
