Updated as of 09/06/2024 I've been going to this gym for 5 and a half years minus a year due to covid or more and it is an alright gym. It has all the basics and everything you need in regards to an all-round training regiment, but the cleanliness has got worse, there are evident signs of wear and tear of the equipment and building with parts of the ceiling leaking, and some of the equipment is broken with lengthy out of order periods. The studio is big and great to train in but the variety of classes is lacking, especially when you're at a higher fitness level. The constant advertisements playing throughout the gym is a negative as well. You can block these out with your headphones/earphones, but it's nice to be able to walk around without anything in or on your ears and not have to listen to advertisements and brand chart music that gets repetitive. The pool, hot tub, steamroom, and sauna are decent but the showers are very inconsistent, and it has become increasingly overcrowded. The changing rooms need a massive improvement because due to the ventilation, there is always a bad oder and humidity which make it difficult to get dry. The amount of members quiting will free up some space, but with all the other negatives I can see myself leaving for something more expensive and better maintained. If you want a casual experience with all the amenities, I would try this gym for a while, but be assess everything, give the management feedback, and make a decision within a month.
Great gym. Lovely staff and the spa is very impressive for city centre location. I pay for myself and the Mrs monthly that's how happy I am with It .
Do not join the club. You would be asked for a month notice to terminate even after 12 months contract period. They closed Queen st branch with only a half month notice in advance. When you want to quit membership you still need to pay for one more month even without using facilities. If you send them an email to terminate the membership they would not accept it. How terrible! They only want you money without providing prompt service.
Update: Andreas responded basically accusing me of making it up. Claiming their staff haven’t spoke to me but didn’t asked me for a description of who I spoke to and then asked me for proof of my injury. Bear in mind I am not asking for compensation, I am just asking to do something about the dangerous slippery surface, I thought this was a disgusting response. I will keep updating here. Oh and apparently to Andreas cant find any wet area I’m talking about. Just cos it’s not wet when you were there doesn’t mean it’s not frequently wet lol ———————— I had to transfer from quay street due to its closure. The floor between the pool and the changing room was so wet, I could see but still fell over and hurt myself. I’ve reported it to the reception when it happened and I’ve also reported it via email expressing concerns around health and safety. They never responded. I would rather not stay in this gym but I have no choice because I like the instructors who transferred over from quay street. It’s like Bannatynes gave up on quality at Manchester branch. It’s really sad cos Chepstow and quay street were fine. Really disappointed.
Bannatyne whitworth street, is a great gym with lovely staff. I’d specifically like to thank the GM for being so helpful when I lost my earphones he went out of his way to retrieve them and I’m grateful for his efforts and kindness, thank you!
Very unhelpful and rude staff. Wouldn't let me cancel my gym membership despite other Bannatyne gym in Manchester that I used shutting down. I also gave them a months prior notice that I wanted to cancel but still demanding last payment.
I have been coming to this gym for around a year and a half. The staff are are friendly and help with any issues you have. The gym is well maintained and has a good range of gym equipment as well as full access to a pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub. I have not personally attended the classes but they run regularly and are included in the membership. It is quite busy in the evening during peak hours, however, this is the same for any gym. The switch from disposable wipes to blue roll to disinfect equipment means far fewer people clean equipment after themselves but I assume it is a cost saving measure during high energy prices, etc. I would recommend this gym.
The gym has everything you need it , and the staff are so friendly and helpful, The pool is so clean .
I really like this gym, the staff are really friendly and the studio is often free for my own workouts. I have also been to the spa at their Quay st branch and that was fantastic. Wide range of treatments and product’s available. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. I love the pool at this location. It has a chill atmosphere and is always lovely and warm. There is also a steam room, sauna and jacuzzi which are all fantastic and comfortable to relax in. There are many classes available and I would prefer more though! Especially on the weekend it’s very slim pickings. The instructors are always friendly and able to coach you through the exercises and equipment. My fav gym in town
I do like that gym as it isn't especially busy, neither filled with gasping and screaming steroids-strong bodybuilders. Situation obviously changes on Monday ; Gym is well equipped, missing calf machines only I guess. I especially enjoy spacious functional zone. I think I would appreciate some under 10kg weights in weights lifting zone. I see everyday passionate PT helping its trainees. I like reception and lockers secure system. Over that there is nice spa area with small swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Maybe ladies showers would need little better cleaning during busy hours. I don't go to classes myself but I've seen that instructors and all into while training, I bet it's worth to give it a try. Only very bad thing is opening times 6-22 during a week 8-21 on weekends, but I guess it's a price to pay for reception and their help. All in all I'm happy with a change for Bannatyne ;
