Great to be in Cambridge and the hotel is right near the center, comfy bed too. However the room could have been cleaner, specifically the bathroom, lots of mold and limescale. The toilet didn't flush very well either and there seemed to be a spider problem. Too many staff taking care of the breakfast as well as too many bigger tables, so other guests would be seated with you. Morning service desk staff very friendly, however evening staff seemed unfriendly. All in all, could be improved.
The shower drained so slowly it overflowed if we did not wait between uses room 220. The shower door had a sharp base and the cubicle was so small it scraped my ankle when closed. The shower was so stiff it was difficult to turn on and off when wet. The tiny bathroom meant there was no room for our wash bags. The tiny TV is nailed to the wall at right angles to the bed. We stayed a week and had our room checked every other day, which failed to give us fresh mugs so we washed them ourselves. The only plug is far away from the bed. We had to pay to leave our car per hour on our final day and had to wait 20 minutes in a queue of complaints to pay for it. Holiday Inn let you leave your car for free. Oh and the restaurant? 1 starter, 2 average quality mains and 1 desert, with a drink each: £75. The staff are trying but this place feels like a cash cow for the owner.
Stayed for two nights. Single room overlooking the canal. Very nice. Room comfy and warm. All TV channels working. Held our Aunties wake there too. Facilities and ALL the staff looked after us very well. No problems Although
The room is small and it was cold. Trouble with flushing the toilet. Some staff is kind some not. It's pity as hotel has a big good indoors restaurant, big nice outdoor restaurant, garden and car park. It is a nice old house near the river across the Jesus Green park. Only on first floor rooms are very comfortable and pleasant with nice view.
Great location and free parking but the hotel is a little run down. Very poor water pressure in the coach house. It took about 20 minutes to fill the bath half way. Needs a good cleaning. Excellent continental breakfast included.Rooms: 3/5
I booked a group birthday meal for a family member on Sunday. The restaurant team were so welcoming and accommodated our various needs and preferences and took excellent care of us. We were extremely well looked after and it made the event so perfect for all those involved. Huge thanks to everyone at the Arundel who helped us.Service: 5/5
Very central. Staff very attentive and friendly. Bed Very clean had mattress protector on. Very dated/old fashioned. Shower head full of lime scale, friends bathroom so small sink in bedroom she had to sit sideways on loo as little space to front of toilet.Rooms: 3/5
Booked a room for a night as going to the theatre in Cambridge and decided to stay overnight. Room was spacious and comfortable with all amenities needed. The hotel staff was excellent, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent, plenty to choose from and staff willing to help with allergy advice. Rooms: Spacious, comfortable, en-suit bathroom, television. Nearby activities: Close to Cambridge City Centre.
Great location if you're looking to go out and about. After being charged twice for the same two rooms, plus a £15 charge for parking at the same hotel, it's crazy how expensive it is for what you get, an outdated hotel with staff that make mistakes like charging for rooms that have already been paid for. This was rectified, but because of persistence. The details of the card were used after a previous transaction, which is quite alarming. For what you get, like I said with the 70s decor and layout, it could be better or find somewhere else.
The hotel is very convenient for central Cambridge. We stayed in the Coach House section. There was plenty of parking at the hotel. However, the double bed was so small we thought it was a large single and the pillows were like sacks of potatoes. To add to the night's woes, the alarm went off at 5:37am and stopped after about 1 minute. When I asked the next morning about this the very abrasive lady on duty did not know it had taken place and adopted an aggressive defensive attitude. She could have handled it so much better by simply apologising for the inconvenience. Breakfast was advertised as included, but they did not make clear that it was "continental", rather than "full English"; this does not feel open and honest about what is offered. When I arrived for breakfast, even though there were spare tables, I was asked to wait outside the restaurant until a single table was available. It felt like the staff did not have a good grasp of running a breakfast service and trying to help people get on with the rest of their busy schedules. I would be reluctant to recommend this hotel except for its convenient location and parking.
