Helping abused, abandoned and neglected cats since 1990!

Story

About Us

Our charity is based on the belief that all animals deserve a loving and comfortable home and meeting these needs are of the utmost importance. Our entire team is committed to getting results for the animals in our care and we all work towards the goal of creating a loving environment, whether in our care or in their new homes, our charity aims to promote health and well being in all the animals we care for.

The History

Animal Aid was founded in 1990 by Susan Geeleher and Kay Sheridan and was granted charitable status in September 1990 by the Charity Commission, registered charity no 1143133. Its main aims are to rescue abused and abandoned cats and to offer them a safe environment with any medical care that the animals require.

At first we rented 6 units from private boarding kennels in Melling; we eventually were able to rent all the units and build a cattery. As the volunteer base grew, in 1992 we were offered a piece of land in Field Lane, Fazakerley at a peppercorn rent and we were able to build 12 kennels, a large cattery and a small administration unit.

In order to fund these activities we opened our charity shop on County Road, Walton, Liverpool in 1995. Unfortunately after 3 years at Field Lane, the owner sold the land for redevelopment and we had to move out. The cats are now housed in a purpose built cattery. We ensure that any person wishing to adopt any of our animals has the necessary home checks to ensure a safe and loving environment before adoption is agreed.

The Charity relies on donations from the public and the income from the shop which is staffed entirely by volunteers - without their help we would not be able to function.

Mission

Our mission is to provide all cats in Liverpool that have been abandoned or abused with a warm and loving home through our cattery and subsequently through our re-homing process.

Products

We aim to rehome any cat we take in through our cattery.
We also have a shop on County Road which accepts donations (also accepted through our website) and bric a brac, clothes, toys and small furniture items.

Came across a poorly fledged seagull and wanted advise on where to take it as it was poorly and we are not from Liverpool, was only there for work. sadly when we called we were told they couldn't help and try another sanctuary or to just leave the bird, we asked for help as we are not from the area and was told to go on facebook... after half an hour of trying other sanctuaries and getting no where i finally rang RSPCA who advised us to take the bird to any vets but to be prepared to take him back where we found him if he is ok. turns out we were right, poor thing was starved and full of flu, the vets were unsure whether he would survive the night. Just sad that we weren't just told to take him to the vets first, it took 5 sanctuaries till we got told, let's hope they didn't have to euthanized him and he was realised.
Great place - lovely, genuine, caring staff. Any cat who has found its way there has hit the jackpot!
I got my kitten cobweb now names alfie hes is a cuddle monster made up with him paulas friend found him on the streets and Paula took him in and cared for him its horrible to think what would of happened to him without this charity well done to all
Paula was so lovely and helpful, my furbaby was in good hands
They do an excellent job taking countless cats off the streets. We love our little boys and they're with us for life now. I think sometimes people coming by basically yell at the top of their voices by tiny kittens and should be warned but the people here really do care about what they do and their hearts are in the right place.
Ive always gotten my cats from Animal Aid, the team are dedicated to the welfare of cats and kittens and show so much love and support to them... I like that they really do go the extra mile to make sure the cats/kittens are going to a decent home, I had a house visit and I visited the kittens a few times and we had a private visit with my son to see how he was with them. Love the shop that supports the charity it really is like a little treasure trove of secret goodies - if your going to shop dig deep into the piles of goods you wont be disappointed Thank you for my two cats Callie and Pollie they are little monsters but they get away with it because they are cute!
Found a cat that had been ran over took me hour and half trying to find help for the poor thing
The animal aid team are doing an amazing job looking after lovely cats that through no fault of their home that no one wants. Nursing them back to health when neglected. So sad, thank god for these wonderful team. I got my cat from them last year.
Recently Animal Aid have had some issues with hate and total lies and defamation of the great work done to keep Liverpool's cats and kittens safe and cared for . These reviews are nothing less than inflammatory and frankly untrue and unfounded. Most have been done through fake accounts and one even used my name to write their review. Everyone has an opinion but those who are intent to discredit us have done so through enticement from one post that unfortunately escalated to a hate campaign . Those that know us know how dedicated we all are at the charity. We have three floors ,the Isolation area being the smallest described as a portaloo! Totally untrue as this is a short term holding area for new cats to assess or for cats in need of medical care in individual pod area . Unless you know us please don't put animals chances of adoption at risk . Defamation of character has been reported so unless you know what you're talking about then you are adding to this facade.
So caring. We found a very young cat we think she is pregnant. Animal aid are now caring for her with out any hesitation. We hope to be able to adopt her when she is well enough. My heroes x
