Fantastic two night stay for myself, partner & two dogs - Thomas & Michael. Warm greeting on arrival, accommodation was first class, very clean & very comfortable. Breakfast was included, what a perfect full English! Couldn't fault it. Cereals, toast, juice, tea & coffee also included. The bar manager was friendly & made sure we had a brilliant service each morning for breakfast. Dogs are allowed in the bar area which was a real bonus. Highly recommend dinner there, it really was delicious. We had the pleasure of meeting Sarah who works behind the bar, such a lovely, friendly young lady, Thomas & Michael loved her! Thank you all for making our stay very memorable, we can't wait for our next stay! Caroline, John, Thomas & Michael x
I stayed here for one night recently and I have to say it was fabulous. The room was so clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff were so friendly and nothing was too much bother. We had a fantastic night with the locals. We will definitely be visiting again soon
Rooms were lovely, clean, warm and the bed was huge. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the service: I asked if we could get lunch on arrival and was told somebody would be available to do this, which didn't happen. We had to travel to the next village to get lunch. If we were told this beforehand, we would have got lunch on the way, hence the 2 stars. Also, if you want fresh breakfast, get there at 8:30, otherwise it'll be something that's been kept warm for half an hour!
Went there spur of the moment for Sunday lunch. Really helpful staff- as there was no vegetarian alternative to a Roast dinner at the time, they provided a lovely selection of vegetables and specially made vegetarian gravy.Location: 4/5
Sunday dinner - Wow! Choice of chicken, beef or lamb. Mountains of delicious veg, Yorkshire Pudding, gravy and it was all very tasty. The rooms all seem to have high ceilings, plenty of space, walk-in showers and are very comfortable.
I stayed during a mini heatwave in July. The rooms were cool and spacious. The attached pub was friendly with a decent range of local ciders. Simon and his wife were extremely helpful and accomodating, serving a good breakfast and always on hand to see if there was anything we needed. I have rated this as five stars based on the price v quality.
Excellent rooms very friendly and made to feel welcome. Breakfast and food very good.
Had a very pleasant evening meal recently at this welcoming inn. Good choice of dishes from a varied pub menu with specials board, food was very well presented, with very good friendly service. Highly recommended!
Lovely bar lady unfortunately food was aweful, son ordered toad in the hole to recieve a burnt Yorkshire pudding with sausages , daughters food came with a hair cooked on it and my veggie burger was powdery and white. Yorkshire pudding was replaced with another burnt Yorkshire pudding that my son then attempted to feed to our dogs . Nice place if you are just ordering drinks but I would avoid the food at all costs , we didn't even get a sorry .
We used the Ancient Mariner as the starting point of walking the Coleridge Way and we found the staff very accommodating and allowed us to park our car there for the week whilst we did our walk. The evening meal was excellent and the standard Fayre for breakfast was adequate for the day ahead. The only downside for us was the room. The bed was very uncomfortable and the room basic but there was plenty of hot water. The famous Poet, Samuel Coleridge produced some of his finest works in the Village and his house, which is now owned by the National Trust, is directly opposite the pub and is well worth a visit.
