Disgusting place. Students partying in the courtyard at 5am in the morning and if you call the security, they will tell you they've stop the crowds and they can't do anything about it. Although its a uni accomondation the uni doesn't care about any students live here. I've reported that I was disturbed all night by the partying noise, the uni only told me to talk to the psychotherapist... This is Not a place for sleeping.
The assistant Manager is not so friendly, other staffs are nice , facilities are a bit old no other problems except noise pollution from the tram way in some blocks
I lived there for a semester and I really liked it. Flats are very recent and beautiful and the staff is very friendly. The only downside is that it is expensive.
Very good. The staff is ready to help anytime whenever there's a problem in your room or flat and it feels safe. There's not as much mould as I expected - only a tiny corner in the shower.
TL;DR: It's a trap, run away and get other accommodation if you can!!!!!!! Too many times I have been frustrating to the point of tears. Only positive thing is being close to campus. At least for me it was only a six month exchange, I could not imagine living here for even a year. Everything is a rip off... Took this accommodation since it was advertised as refurbished and because walking long distance to uni can be a problem for me at times due to health. Well, turns out that no it is not completely refurbished, only some parts are. The people in my flat also got trapped into this scam when they came at the start in September. When I arrived in February, nothing has been cleaned, previous tenants where still leaving as people were trying to move in, plus it is mouldy. My flatmates told me that before I arrived the cleaning staff just sat in the kitchen for an hour and only did a quick check in the room after the previous girl left to make sure nothing was left behind. No matter how hard you scrub and clean it is still gross and mouldy. Living in student halls shouldn't have to be a health hazard! There is no ventilator in the bathroom and the drains are poorly designed so flooding is a common problem as well. There have been times where I couldn't shower longer than four minutes before everything started to flood. They tell you not to shower with the door open since the heat can trigger the fire alarm but what else are you supposed to do?! halls and kitchen smell awful and since the rooms have no ventilation either, windows have to be open all the time. Common space is not functional for six people. Walls are paper thin so don't even think about having privacy or a goodnight sleep... Drunken people screaming into the night in the halls and the street. Construction at all hours of the day and sometimes even late at night. This construction is supposed to be finished and opening in September... Laundry is an absolute rip off. Costs almost £5 for a wash and dry if you get lucky and you get dry clothes at all... they charge more for laundry here than at other locations in Sheffield! Some other girls in my course purchased some of the welcome packages for bedding such before arrival and said they are poor quality and uncomfortable. Staff are friendly but not always helpful. It's like playing roulette if you have to report something to be fixed.
The room is small, hardly much desk space. The bathroom is small, there is only a shower curtain, not a proper shower door, so its hard to keep clean, and there is no fan. They did not provide us with a hoover. The heater is in a stupid place, right underneath the desk?? They say they do regular checks throughout the year but they don't. There are faults with the boiler system, no hot water and even when reported, the staff take ridiculously long to sort it out, not helpful at all. Noisy outside hear the trams and construction work going on nearby. Laundry is expensive, and the dryers are right at the top so its hard to reach all your clothes out end up losing bits and pieces. Clearly overpriced for what they offer, you can get much better accommodation that is just as close to the university for a more reasonable price. I highly DO NOT recommend.
I stayed at Allen COurt last year and i was very happy with my stay. The rooms are very bright and spacious and kitchens are very big. Very easy to collect post and parcels as they sign parcels for you but only available if you come after 15:00pm which is a bit annoying. I booked the common room many times to enjoy nights with friends. Staff are all very helpful and friendly, mentors in the office most nights for support.
Made a lot of great memories here. The place is very conveniently located with friendly staff. The common room was also quite nice and equipment was modern. Unfortunately the shower smelled bad after a shower and the heater was weirdly placed under the desk which meant laptops would overheat. But overall, pretty good. A bit expensive though.
I stay here for the 2016-17 academic year and I would say so far that this is one of the very good student accomodations I have experienced. 24/7 reception service, great residence life with tons of activities... Luckily I live with quiet birds so everything is working quite well. just a little bit uncomfortable with the location of the laundry room and the size of the shower area but I guess they can not do anything with it as it depends on the building's design.
Allen court was a great place to stay during my first year of study. It is located right in the city so everything is close by. I had a deluxe room which included a double bed and ensuite a little small. The room itself was very spacious. Don't listen to the bad reviews about staff as they were always friendly if you were friendly to them. Faults in the apartments got fixed within a day of reporting them. The walls aren't very thick so you do hear a lot of your flat mates doing things you shouldn't be hearing! : All in all I had a great experience in Allen Court and would recommend.
