This is a lovely pub with friendly staff, a warm atmosphere and great food. I recently became vegan and was delighted to see they have a vegan menu on weekdays. At the weekend they don’t have the vegan menu but were very accomodating and altered a vegetarian dish for me. It was delicious. I would recommend it.

We booked a table at the Alford Arms for Mothers day evening. Encouraged by the good reviews online, we were looking forward to the food and enjoying a lovely relaxing evening. Unfortunately, it was not the case. Some of the food was inedible, including a pork belly starter, which more closely resembled a pork scratching, accompanied by a limp salad. The chicken tian was equally bland, and the main course of black pudding crusted haddock was best described as still swimming in a watery pea sea. The food was a let-down, tasteless at best and inedible at worst. I was disappointed as it was expensive, and I had wanted to treat my mum to something really lovely for mothers day. However, the staff were attentive and friendly and the atmosphere was OK. We were told that the chef often uses Sundays to test out new recipes - which seemed odd to us - why would you try out new dishes on Mothers Day? I won't be returning to the Alford Arms, the food isn't worth the journey!

Lovely country pub. Food is hearty. Outside seating for sunny days. Car park is tiny so difficult on busy days.

Actually it was my wife who ate here. Very unimpressed. Food overpriced, very poor selection. Why does everything have to have chillies in it? Will definitely not be eating here again. However, those in the group who like chillies and have plenty of spare cash, really enjoyed themselves.
