Update 09/06/24: Shop has only gotten worse. They removed some parts of the ailes. Removing essential products so that they can place random pallets of stock they have too much of. Staff are burning out. Everyone seems to care less and less. To fail as a shop as simple as ALDI is just very bad management. I even witnessed store manager lie to his bosses face during a shop inspection. The reason I am adding to this review is because today I saw one of the managers check the cheese stock and walk away with her tablet. What she left behind was a pack of raw bacon and a pack of breaded chicken sitting next to the cheese. If someone in her job role has stopped caring. Why would any of the staff care either. Please stop destroying my local ALDI. Just do your job. New photos added. Reduced to 2 stars.nnPrevious review:nWaste of space. New management, New take on old problems.nnNew store has more space for stock and more space between the Isles. New self check outs help basket shoppers stay out of till queues. New dedicated parking bays for disabled, with children and electric car charging. The customer/disabled toilet is now easy to find next to the self check outs. However the stand for the local newspaper is no longer found anywhere in the store.nnThe trolley tills have a new split end design which does not work. Aldi expects two customers to wait at the bottom of the each trolley tills to compensate for the fact they are no longer double sided. There is a barrier and rollers to try and keep customer items separate. The card machine is on a movable arm so that it can be shared between customers. What always tends to happen is that the items get stuck at the top of the barrier because the rollers are too far from the cashier. This means that customer has to constantly reach for the items and pull them down. Otherwise the cashier will push them all down in one quick shove causing soft items to be crushed in the pile. Majority of the customers wait for the number 2 position to be available instead of squeezing past the current customer to place their trolley in position 1. The concept may work in Germany. However in Grays it fails to recognise the limits of people's spacial awareness or willingness to share space while paying for shopping. As a bonus point when the store opened they used random left over plastic from the new tills with tapped up small pieces of paper as conveyer belt dividers. I guess none remember to order new ones before the store opened.nnSelf checkout tills use software borrowed from another store chain. They have some quirks and plenty of room from improvement. The menu system needs adjusting to support Aldi shopping fully. Currently any discounted products have to be price adjusted individually by the store assistant. Normally I scan those last and leave them clearly visible to speed up the process.nnNow for the main problem, the stock. In old store shelves would be empty because they did not have enough staff to filll them up or have any stock left to put out. New store has shelfs mostly full but full of the same product over and over again. This means that with more shelf space we have less products to buy. Before the management would not order enough stock. New management orders too much of select products leaving little space for others.nnStaff are always running around trying to catch up and never staying on top. Stock is not being date rotated properly leading to stock being binned by store and the customer. If you do not check your dates you could end up paying full price for food that expires on the same day you buy. Even worse, you could end up paying full price for food that is already expired.nnThe whole store is a massive waste of potential and space. Room for improvement, more ways then one.
Shopped there today and that was no problem BUT my wife needed to use the toilet in the store and it was not clean, wet on the floor and no toilet paper and no check list which means that it was not checked properly...we asked for the manager and he apologised however, I not sure this situation will not repeat itself..nI told the manager that for a food store to have such unhygienic facilities is plain wrong...hope they sort it..
If they cared as much about keeping counters open as they are about making sure people pay for bags, we could all check out quicker!
I am disgusted today I witnessed a woman called Katie, that works there swearing at a mother accusing her of stealing peanuts that were open underneath her pram, they didn’t even check the CCTV the mother asked them to check the CCTV calmly and they refused. She had at least £60 of shopping, the mother was distressed with her baby and shopping. She didn’t even call the police because she was flustered and she wanted to go home and called, I encouraged her to call the police when she got home a make a report I hope she did verbal abuse is an arrestable offence.nThe service was appalling I think they are awful staff members and the verbal abuse no way this is fair on a customer to be verbally abused how to can work somewhere and do that especially with no evidence. No human should be treated like that I hope Katie loses her job and the security because that is unprofessional and unacceptable
Not too busy, helpful staff & lots of room in the aisles. Good prices, good quality - no complaints.
