Came for the xmas markets, very busy, too many prams and very high prices to buy things. Xmas Markets sounds good but the actual fact is, its a good place for an Xmas P***up
A beautiful outdoor space adjacent to Manchester's city hall featuring ample seating areas and lovely monuments, surrounded by beautiful old buildings. A very worthy spot for a wander or a rest while visiting downtown Manchester.
Albert Memorial was created following the death of Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert in 1861
Beautiful place and monument although the square was rounded by concrete blocks which is very sad
The Town Hall is closed till 2024 for maintenance. It was a great to spent some time and set under the Albert monument.
The Christmas market is amazing with a vibrant combination of food, craft, wine and a jolly Yule atmosphere.
Been here a few times for the Xmas market. Crowded as always but this is expected. Prices seem to have gone up a lot and happiness and politeness of people serving has gone down a lot.folks. We are paying for a festive experience and if you can't deliver that people won't spend money at your stalls.
The town Hall is closed till 2024, however they make good use of the space in front. The Albert monument was today holding a Hungarian food festival with singing and dancing. Each year the event is busy and a great way to see a European festival. Food not spicy. Sausage, bread products and beer. Lots of tables to sit at and over 20 stalls to see. Great day, but only for three days a year in May.
The memorial is of a high quality for the time in which is was erected. The area around it is often a focal point for lots of events in Manchester city centre. For example there are often free food and drink events held here. Equally it's the focal point for the Christmas markets. Always worth a look just to what's going on.
Another outpouring of grief and respect for good old Albert. Must have been one heck of a bloke. Nowadays the monument is just the focal point of Albert Square, overlooked by the magnificent town hall. Albert Square is the central meeting point for lots of events and gatherings. There's also a nice fountain. I like the open spaces of Manchester.
