Called into Als today for lunch. I've been here a few times now since the tea shop has been Als (Not Vals who was a previous owner!) Nice and clean, very friendly, food was tasty, well priced and generous portions! Will be returning when visiting Wakefield again.

Despite nice experiences in the past, after visiting Val's today I can say I definitely won't be returning. I ordered two pots of tea and a slice of cheesecake but, after a bite, found the cheesecake to be rather liquids in consistency with coarse/grainy lumps- so I asked the waitress if she could take it back because I didn't like it. Upon coming to pay for my tea I was charged for the cheesecake as well and, when I reminded the staff that I did not take more than a bite of my cheesecake before returning it, was told that 'it was [my] choice to return it' and made to pay for it. I find this level of customer service highly rude and unacceptable when I was very polite when returning the cheesecake and also when I informed the cashier that I did not eat it. Subsequently, I will not be returning to Val's tearoom and will not be recommending it to people but, on the contrary, discouraging people due to the appalling service I received today.

Discriminating, narrow minded owner with a disgusting attitude towards individuals whom he deems not the norm. This owner is guilty is publically humiliating and judging an individual. He should be ashamed of himself.
