Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is an NHS Foundation Trust located in the suburb of Fazakerley, in the city of Liverpool, England. It was formerly known as University Hospital Aintree NHS Trust and became a Foundation Trust in 2006.FutureIn October 2015 the Trust Board agreed to pursue the possibility of a merger with the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital NHS Trust.FacilitiesThe Trust consists of Aintree University Hospital but does not include The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery, which since 1998 is now located on the same site; it originally provided services from the since demolished Walton Hospital on Rice Lane in Walton, Liverpool. In 2009, the Care Quality Commission rated the trust "Good" for the quality of its services and "Excellent" for the quality of its financial management.Alongside the Walton Centre, and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in the city centre; Aintree acts as designated adult major trauma centre for the Merseyside and Cheshire regions.Aintree University Hospital is also the headquarters of UNISON Sefton Health Branch, which is the dominant trade union to the majority of the nursing and ancillary staff on the hospital site.
