A star because i have to in order to write a review. I assume the doctors are lovely however the receptionist i spoke to earlier sarah was the most rudest negligent disrespectful person i have ever encountered in my life. Avoid this practice like the plague. Formal complain made. Following procedure.
My husband has been going to this GP frequently for recurring gastrointestinal issues. Firstly, I would like to point out I am not a medical professional but I am quite well educated in biology and the use of medication in line with my education and career. First of all, a female GP told him to take an incredible number of laxatives in my opinion dangerous despite the safe dosage being 1-2 as required daily, he was instructed to take 10 daily alongside 2 pills at night that caused him sever abdominal cramping and unnecessary pain. For the life of me I cannot fathom how any medical professional would even consider this degree of laxatives. Second of all, his GP kept changing after many months of calling and trying to schedule appointments and the advice was always the same, take laxatives. Fast forward almost 1 year and the issue still remains and finally a GP referred him for further testing. His test results came back positive and a surgical procedure is required to investigate further. Third problem, the GP did not communicate anything to my husband after the initial appointment, a letter was sent from his GP with a date and surgical information and today my husband went to the hospital for the procedure only to find out that the GP has referred him for an incorrect procedure.... so now he has to wait even longer because his GP didn't understand the results enough to refer the correct surgery.... Who is employed here? Because besides prescribing dangerous dosages of medication, they clearly don't know how to read test results either. I mean who is monitoring thier activity? My husband is positive for something serious and they send him the wrong referral. Who is allowing this? It is complete and utter medical negligence
Rudest receptionist every, no empathy, I dread calling or going. Last time I was in the waiting room she was so rude to someone on the phone it was unfordable for people in the waiting room. Doctor also very rude. Heard them discussing my case in a hallway. Horrible experience.
Was at the practice for four years during which was dealing with some serious health issues. Both GP and especially the nursing staff where fantastic as I needed to go in for monthly injections and they made sure it was always very smooth. Genuinely sad to move away from the area and lose them as my local practice.
I have spoken to receptionist in Abbingdon medical Practice they are rood dismissive and put patients in danger with their attitude I DO NOT NORMALLY COMPLAIN but as I have a life threatening condition they were very very unhelpful the doctors are good but the reception staff need fired
Doctors are all fabulous. It’s lovely to have a female doctor full time now. They are all Very attentive and professional, they really do care and often go that extra mile to tick all boxes. I have never had a problem with the reception staff, always found them to be pleasant. The practice itself is bright and spotless clean. Definitely worth the five stars
Its taken me a while to recover & write this but I have finally left this dangerous practice and wish id done it sooner. My Dr wasn't initially the problem it was the receptionists one in particular, Julie, they should NOT be working with ppl at all. Vile behaviour, screaming down phone and speaking to patients who can't speak English clearly like dirt. Don't bother complaining to manager either, it'll make your situation 10 x worse and they'll sabotage your appointments deliberately! Don't expect any mental health support, all you'll get is LIFELINK written on a piece of paper and sent on your way. but what tipped the boat was when I took a really bad turn and called the surgery asking for an emergency app... all I got was abuse as she couldn't make out what I was saying...I later found out by another Dr I was in fact having a mini stroke. Since leaving and joining my new surgery I am now getting the treatment I should have been receiving years ago, trauma therapy and specialised support in medicating my condition. My Dr took immediate steps in making referrals I do have to say the NURSE Julie and ONE receptionist can't remember name is lovely, too good for that place. If you care about your health, please AVOID this practice at all costs. It needs serious reviewing!!
Both myself and son have attended Abbingdon Surgery for several years, I have always been greatful for both the reception staff and GPs who have been nothing but professional supportive empathetic patient friendly all at the same time! Keep up the good work Team Abbingdon
I had unfairly put one star before and changed it as I think it's ashame that the rest of the practice gets a bad rep for the receptionists unprofessional and negligent behaviour, as the Doctors are lovely and so are some of the other reception staff. I called up on 26/04/22 and 09.05am with suspected shingles that my mother, a retired nurse had pointed out. I explained all of this on the call and was advised to go to a pharmacy as there was nothing my MEDICAL practice could do. The pharmacy were outraged at this advice and could only give me paracetamol and cream for the rash. That evening I ended up feeling much worse and my leg was agony so I called NHS 24 and spoke to a lovely nurse who were also outraged at the advice I was given. She advised me that receptionists are not allowed to to give that sort of advice as it could have been meningitis or something much more serious. She made me promise to write a letter of complaint and to ensure I share my experience. Luckily I was seen to that evening by the New Victoria Hospital out of hours later on and was diagnosed with shingles and given Aciclovir and stronger pain relief. The nurse I spoke to was also appalled at my treatment. There seems to be one, maybe two receptionists there that let the whole practice down. The one I dealt with that day never gives her name when she answers the phone and isn't much of a people person. I believe in these fields of work the staff should have compassion and care for patients and should be retrained if they don't. I spoke to Collete a few days later to get some stronger pain relief and she was lovely so it's a real shame on the rest of the practice staff.
I'm a fairly recent new patient at this practice but so far, I can't fault them. I had several appointments with the nurse for a cut that was causing me some concern but she made me feel at ease and dispelled my concerns and sure enough, she got me all patched up like she promised. I've been back since and got a different nurse and she was just as friendly and helpful, and the receptionists too are quite welcoming.
