A beautifully kept park really close to the town centre. You can only park for two hours outside, but that's enough time to explore and have something to eat and drink at the lovely kiosk. The toilets are well maintained too.
Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds is a beautiful and serene spot. The well-maintained gardens, vibrant flower displays, and historic ruins create a perfect setting for a relaxing stroll. A delightful place to visit!
Public gardens on the site of an 11C Benedictine monastery in the heart of Bury St. Edmunds.nThe main garden, near the Millenial Tower and medieval Gatehouse is laid out with formal Edwardian bedding and immaculately maintained.nThere is also a sensory garden, a herb garden, and a rose garden. Plenty of mature and some rare trees offer colour and shade, and there are plenty of grassed areas for kids to run around or play hide and seek among the ruins.nNear the Gate entrance, there is a cafe and public toilets, a small shop selling plants and interesting bric-a-brac.nEasy access and well maintained pathways.nNearest long stay car parking is Ram Meadow, about 3 minute walk also with public toilets
The Abbey Gardens are lovely and well worth a trip into Bury which is a nice town with lots of interesting independent shops. In the summer there’s lots of flower beds and greenery. A lot of care goes into maintaining the gardens and I’m grateful for it.nnThe ruins are mostly open to explore and they’re absolutely fascinating - a glimpse into another time. My eldest child’s fascinated with them and imagining what they would have been.nnI have so many lovely memories of the Abbey Gardens from my childhood, especially looking at the birds kept there they still have them now. It’s really nice to be able to visit the gardens when I’m back visiting family in Suffolk to make more memories there with my children.
Lovely, peaceful gardens between the cathedral & old Abbey ruins of King Cnut of Anglo-Saxon times. Only the ruins of the Benedictine Abbey remain but these are extensive with interpretive boards showing the layout of St Edmund's great Abbey. The gardens, laid between large mature trees, are exquisitely kept, a perfect place of tranquility & rest.
