Absolutely brilliant little place, and the fish and chips were something else though, absolutely mega!
Great location, excellent hostel and the staff is brilliantRooms: 5/5
I stayed here for two nights during my hiking trip in Northern England in October. Even though there were max. 3 guests, Simon did a wonderful job on making everybody feel welcome and provided us with anything we needed. Rooms are cosy, beds are comfortable for YHA standards and the common room's even got a fireplace. Good and very affordable starting point for hiking trips.
What you can expect of a hostel. The room was ok. The manager is great guy, very friendly, good conversations and informative.
Just got back from a school residential and it did not disappoint. Simon and Alistair are absolutely brilliant with children and made us feel like we were at home. The food is amazing and the location is perfect. The rooms are very comparable and have everything needed. Hope to be back soon both with the school and with family. Well done guys you have 25 very happy people.
Stayed for one night. Good, basic hostel with shower in room but no toilet in room. Small self catering kitchen, which was okay but imagine can get crowded when the hostel is busy. Perfect base for our very soggy walk up Cross Fell!
We travelled as a group of 11 4 adults and 7 children and had a great time. Sleeping, kitchen facilities and outdoor gardens were all absolutely fine and made our stay super comfortable.Rooms: 5/5
Standard YHA set-up. Staff were great. Bike store was handy. Breakfast was good.Rooms: 3/5
Very small unisex hostel with basic foods. The rooms are tiny but fine. The support was good. You will be allowed to cook foods in the kitchen. You have a common dining in the ground floor. It is the cheapest near Lake District, located in Appleby-in-West Morland.
When I last stayed there, the owner made no secret of the fact that it suited her very nicely that the village shop had closed since my previous visit, so that Pennine Way walkers -- who would not have passed a shop for many miles -- would have to order cooked meals not out of choice but because of nowhere to buy self-catering ingredients. For the same reason, there were also self-service coffee and tea facilities at cafe prices! for the captive market. Back in the day, hostels had shops, precisely to enable self-catering. And many other hostels offer complimentary tea and coffee.
