Yashin Ocean House

About

Yashin Ocean House is a modern Japanese restaurant creating original sushi and sashimi in South Kensington.

Story

Located on Old Brompton Road in South Kensington, the menu at Yashin Ocean House is based entirely around fish and seafood, offering head to tail dining using every aspect of the fish from roe, to flesh, to skin.

This approach is possible using only a wider range of seafood cuts and through the high skills and expertise of Chef Patrons, Yasuhiro Mineno, ex-head chef at Ubon by Nobu and renowned Europe-wide for his knife-skills, and Shinya Ikeda, ex-head chef at the prestigious Yumi restaurant in London. They have been joined in the kitchen by talented young chef Daniele Codini former chef de partie at The Fat Duck who has
been brought in as Senior Sous Chef.

The latest project from the team behind Yashin Sushi & Bar on High Street Kensington, hosts a dining room displaying elegant Edwardian architecture with contemporary touches including a turquoise counter made from glazed volcanic stone where diners can sit as they watch the impressive knife skills of the Yashin team.

In the summer months diners are encouraged to enjoy the new summer terrace with a bottle of sake or one of Yashin signature cocktails.

Always a pleasant lunch, sushi is top quality , atmosphere is so relaxing and beautiful restaurant in a Georgian style high ceiling establishment. Amazing lunch sets and very good wine by the glass. Sushi tastes unique and is exquisite - the toppings all vary and are house made, so you don’t need any soy or wasabi here. Very attentive and kind service esp from Xenia the manager! Really recommend this well kept secret of South Kensington to any sushi lover! Kid-friendliness: High chairs available
We took the set menu. The food was brilliant. Fresh and delicious. The service was great. Slight comment: They made us sat at a table next to the staircase with a view of the bottom of a horse. We ate our food looking at the rear of a horse. This isn’t really appetising. The music was not really not fitting with the environment where it’s quiet and played club covers.
We had the tasting menu for my wife’s birthday. The team at Yashin did an outstanding job and made the night so special. The food was expertly crafted and the space is a polished mix of modern and historic. Highly recommend!Food: 5/5
Strange place - everything is a bit ‘weird’. Parmesan on sushi, balsamic vinegar with soy sauce, miso out of a tea cup. And an interior to match it as well as half the restaurant is funky and finished while the other half is… unfinished. Yet it works. New and unique flavors, high quality sushi, and a cool atmosphere. Food presentation is equally sophisticated and the drinks were good. I spent £50 pp without drinks. The lunch menu is cheaper by the way. Ask your waiter for recommendation. Try the popcorn tempura and grilled aubergine, followed by the Omakase 8.
For the price point, the sushi and side dishes for lunch are phenomenal! We had a selection of sushi combined with a variety of toppings which was paired beautifully. Our server was incredibly attentive and conversational. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to experience a great range of flavours.Food: 5/5
The head chief Ikeda was amazing. The food was all delicious and generous. Everything was so fresh and great service. It is one of our favourite restaurants.Highly recommend!Food: 5/5
I had the pleasure of dining, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. What truly stood out to me was the evident passion and meticulous attention to detail that the team puts into every single aspect of their restaurant. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the warmth and dedication that goes into creating a memorable dining experience. Every dish was a work of art, showcasing not only the chef's skills but also their commitment to sourcing the finest ingredients. You can tell that they have done their research and put in the effort to source products that are of the highest quality. Each bite was a delightful explosion of flavors, perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience.
We had a fantastic dinner: the food was excellent, the service by Sakurako & colleagues was very attentive and kind and the atmosphere very relaxing. We will definitely visit again!Food: 5/5
I booked this restaurant as a birthday treat for one of our group members. It was 12:30 on a rainy Easter Monday afternoon and the place was empty. But the staff were very welcoming and the airy, spaciousness of the restaurant was a nice ambient setting for the afternoon. The style of the restaurant was a well executed homage to the origins of the venue. It was previously a stable and there is a horse statue inside the restaurant. They have an open kitchen concept and have nice decorative elements around the restaurant in keeping with its original features. The service was exceptional. Fabio was so knowledgeable, clearly articulated the menu to us and entertained our toddler throughout the lunch. The other staff members were also delightful and friendly. The food also was in keeping with the excellent service. We had a variety of sushi dishes, as the tasting menu I had anticipated in ordering was only available during the dinner service. But we did not feel like we missed out. Each dish was carefully curated and well-balanced. We did miss the wasabi and soy sauce that we have been accustomed to having at Japanese restaurants, but we were informed that each item was already seasoned correctly. Which we would agree. We ordered the salmon donburi set, the omakase 8 set, prawn croquettes, octopus and for dessert crème brûlée, matcha tiramisu and baked cheesecake. We also had a variety of sake cherry bouquet, prince and yashin. Our favourites dishes were the miso soup very creamy and smooth; the seared salmon sushi in the omakase melt in the mouth, the delicious prawn croquette and the matcha tiramisu, which was not overly tea matcha flavoured as you find in other restaurants. I would highly recommend eating at this restaurant and would certainly return.
Just enjoyed a terrific dinner here. The sushi was incredible and the service was delightful. Victoria was attentive and genuine and made the whole experience very fun. Could not recommend more for a summer evening.
