It’s a good gym, I recently moved up from glasgow so it’s a lot smaller than the one I used to go to, but it still has loads of variety! There’s loads of classes available and it’s never really that busy which is a bonus. The only reason I’m giving it 3 stars is I’ve had so many strange experiences in the changing rooms with people. There’s been several occasions where I’ve seen people on laptops which a bit weird when people are showering and changing. As well as people staying in the changing room the whole time I’m working out and are still there when I come back but don’t leave nor change. It makes me uncomfortable, so I don’t use the changing rooms anymore.
Lots of high quality machines for every possible sort of strength exercise. Classes are regular and of a high standard. Free weights zones superb. Very equal gender balance of patrons.
Edit: I am posting an update roughly 1 week after I posted my original review. I am very pleasantly surprised to see steps have been quickly taken to address almost every area of concern I have raised. I do not know for sure if the changes that have now taken place at the gym were pre-planned or came about as a genuine response to the issues I and others have raised- either way I am happy. Changes include: 1. A major reshuffle of almost all weight machines. Related machine are now more closely grouped together. More space was also created on the upper floor through more intelligent organisation. 2. Replacement of the old free weights both dumbbells and plates. Quantity of the new weights have also increased meaning increased capacity of catering for peak times. 3. Creation of more space in the weights room. This was achieved by removing chest press machines moved to a wide corridor area that leads to the aforementioned room. 4. fix of upper floor lights. :D 5. New higher quality mats were brought in and new Cardio equipment coming soon. The only thing that I think will be missed from the old layout is the removal of the two cable machines 4 cables in total on the lower floor. These are typically in high demand. In any case, I appreciate the new changes and effort that has gone into this. Thank you! Original review: Been going to this Gym on and off for from the top of my head 7+ years. It was renovated at some point during that time. A lot of new spaces were created from a sled push, squat/deadlift area, weights room to the dance floor and some new equipment was brought in which was a welcome and refreshing change. There are a very wide range of equipment and the gym is open 24hrs. This is a huge positive for this gym. However, the older equipment in this gym have not changed at for the duration of time I have been attending. The majority of this equipment is in sub-par condition. For example, many of the cable machines have stretched cables, loose joints, and stuck weights. More specifically machines that have independent arms for each side like the rear delt machine, hip abduction and adduction machines do not return to centre or simply have a poor design leading to one side doing more of the work and having a greater range of weighted motion. With regards to the assisted pull up machine, some of the first few plates are stuck together. As for the free weights, again they are old some really showing their age. WRT plates, these are constantly shared across different areas of the gym, so you sometimes have to walk out of the space where you intend to do your exercise in search for a specific plate, and because they are not organised well if returned to racks at all this can take a long time. The same is even worse if you are looking for a specific attachment for the cable machines. These machines are split some upstairs and some downstairs, so you end up literally running up and down seeing which machine is free and where the attachment you want is. The quality of these machines is also significantly different, making people only want to use the newer ones - this adds to the wait times. Furthermore, there is rarely enough benches to meet demand. This is the weakest part of this gym. Meanwhile, there is a massive dance floor area and a cycling room that consistently remain empty unless there is a class taking place. The space usage is clearly not driven by actual demand. None of what I have mentioned above is a deal breaker though as long as these issues are addressed over time - this is what any member wants to see. What I can't understand however are the lights that have not been fixed since April of 2022. It is currently mid Oct 2022 why have the lights on the upper floor by the seated row machines not been fixed? This is an extremely busy gym, it should be generating plenty of revenue to be in a place where there is constant repair taking place, yet, this is not the case. This light issue literally sheds light on the state of disrepair that this place is currently in.
Plenty of equipment not the best variety, have a corporate membership via work and asked a personal trainer a question regarding accessing the corporate WiFi, as opposed to the guest - which is shocking. Still don't know how to access it after being referred to the manager. Cancelling membership as soon as the year membership runs out.
I loved everything about the gym. It has every machine I can use and I love it. Only one thing I don't like is that people on there phone often and not using the machine which I find annoy at times. Overall I enjoyed going at night time.
Great gym, personally prefer this to TheGym due to the friendliness of staff, more equipment which staff tidy regularly, more space and plenty cleaning being done. Only downside is the parking however it's not difficult to either attend pre 8am in which case you have until 845am to move your car from the spaces out back or park within a 5/10 minute walk for as long as you like.. call it your warm up. I've been to Puregym for 6 months then TheGym for 6 months and now back to Puregym, much better all round.
Very decent gym…. Think the only thing putting me off is the parking. Feel a gym of this size should have a car park for its members. The 45 minutes on the street is ok but restricts your time in the gym & paying for pay & display every time you visit the gym can prove costly. Unless I’m missing something & there’s a car park everyone uses?
Good gym to use being a member of PureGym for a while now and the local is good to use.
Equipment all over the place. You have to go downstairs and upstairs to complete you workout. Machines in odd places like corridors, yet they have like 20 treadmills all lined up perfectly. Makes me think they only care about cardiobunnys. Also, no parking and don't even think about going there during the day, very busy.
Place is well organized and has some day light, good cellular coverage compared to others. Has all machines you need Downsides, the great number of levels, rooms and metalic stairs makes you feel like in a spaceship, and no free car parking for members wich is a deal breaker for me
