We went for Sunday lunch having had an excellent meal in the past .. big mistake ..food was poor ..service was very slow very expensive ..3 out of 4 beers on tap not available. Toilets a disgrace..set broken and actual seat plastic cover hanging off. They had the nerve to add 12% service which we said we wouldn't pay .. such a shame it used to be amazing
Don't bother! Pros - Lovely historic building, great location in the town, pleasant staff Cons - No ales on tap and woefully poor food. My 'butcher's sausages' were supermarket own-brand quality smooth with no taste. The roast was not cooked to order and the roast potatoes had never seen an oven. All of which was priced the same or higher than better food elsewhere. We didn't bother staying for pudding. A real shame, the pub could be fantastic but awful food means no repeat business or recommendations
I had been to the Woodstock Arms before lockdown and absolutely loved it and was excited to revisit. Unfortunately it wasnt what I expected. One of our party is Celiac, when asking what was gluten free the waitress said she would ask the chef. There was 2 choices. He chose one and after 10 minutes the waitress advised us that the chef wasnt comfortable making that dish as the sauce wasnt made by him and he couldnt be sure, it was gluten free. We had no problem with that and ordered the only available gluten free dish, the fish and chips. Unfortunately the Celiac guest was extremely ill the next couple of days. That was not all, 3 other guests were also ill after having the turkey roast. Overall the services wasnt the best, we ordered water for the table that never came even though we asked 3 times and it wasnt particularly busy. We were sat by a window and the main door which was cold. Though there was a fire behind us, it wasn't on for some reason. Overall I felt there was a lack of effort. The charm of this restaurant is not what it once was.
Food was mediocre but very expensive, £16.50 for a sausage, spoon mash and spoon veg in a water sauce. Toilets dirty and seat broken. Wine List no relation reality and very expensive. 12,5% Service Charge for poor service. Definitely not recommended
Service was not good, went late to avoid rush, put us in the cornerand forgot us. Limited drinks available on tap and by glass. Forgot some starters and drinks, never seemed to worry a lot as it was now very quiet. Did let us off a drink and main as not good , chicken burger was dry and bun stale.. Maybe a bad day , wouldn't rush back . Also don't know how to make a good gin n tonic
We booked for 2 nights to go and visit Blenheim Palace and have a nice break. We were shown to our room which had no heating except a very noisy fan heater .It was too noisy to leave on for any length of time and as soon as we turned it off the temperature dropped rapidly, the radiator was broken in the bathroom, it was freezing,,It also meant that our towels were damp, the sink tap was loose and the shower tray kept filling up and not draining away. This was as the temperature was minus 4. The toilets in the pub were dirty and broken, only one cubicle working in the gents, 3 urinals taped off, tiles on the floor missing. We complained and the bar lady said she would speak to the manager...nothing For £260 for 2 nights room only I'd avoid it
17 December the pub was cold, we had to keep our coats on to eat lunch. As we were a party of 8 I had taken the order for food to the pub on Thursday but they had lost it. The food was good but even good food when you are cold is not a happy experfience.
Truly awful. Please do not waste your money eating here. I imagine that every local avoids the place like the plague. Lovely building/location / decor - everything else diabolical. No Guinness, limited beer and wine. My son ordered a coke - he was given the smallest most expensive bottle of coke rather than being asked if he wanted bottled or draft. Food even worse than drink shortage and staff attitudes.which left us speechless. Burgers NOTHING like described/photo on website. Neither was any of the other website content - Almost like we’d gone to the wrong restaurant?!!! frozen cheap chips of random portion size chucked on the plates. Struggling to find words how awful it was, we've had much better food from road side greasy spoon and Asda cafe! Truly shocking they can get away with charging their extortionate prices. Borderline a joke if I’m being honest. We Asked for ketchup n Mayo for table of 6 and were given one side plate with one blob of each to share?!! They were most put out when we asked for more. My son’s burger was raw inside- they said it was how it came?! We showed them inside the other 2 burgers which were cooked?! They said it would be fine to eat?!! After challenging again they eventually agreed to refund the price. Toilets were sticky and dirty - like a build up of dirt that had been there some time! . One guy in bar got up, shouted an expletive I can only image at his disgust too and walked out. We had to ask staff to remove the 12.% service” charge. We paid and left as soon as we could - all a bit shell shocked. Times are hard, people are struggling - if you’re looking to treat yourself to a nice meal out PLEASE DO NOT go here. We could have had something from out the freezer at home and saved ourselves £90+.
A few drinks to get in out of the rain, here for business. First time in the UK let alone this part of the UK. From Australia. Lovely place, the barman full of energy and just a nice bloke. Few whiskey's and a serve of wings in a great atmosphere makes for a pleasant afternoon.Service: 5/5
most of the staff were friendly but the food however was terrible. soup was very bland and served with bread that was worse than what you can get in any supermarket. camembert was okay as all they had to do was heat it up but was served with the most stale bread i have ever tasted. greens with the pie and sausages seemed like they had been cooking since yesterday and didn’t pair well with the watery gravy. pints were flat too.
