The wife always has to pop into here every time we are in Manchester. Their char siu pork buns are great; not dry and generously filled. Always fresh with a large variety. No customer toilets. Decor is staring to look dated.

Nice buns but unfortunately with the Chicken Curry bun being removed our favourite is now gone. Generally a 4/5 for the bakery however last time we went the food wasn't great, may amend to a 4/5 after our next visit.

Although I have never really visited Manchester before, the front of Wong Wong's was familiar from adverts they used to run on satellite TV a couple of decades ago, and I just had to go in and give them a try. The layout, mode of operation and food on offer will be familiar to anyone who had visited a Hong Kong style bakery. They had a very good choice of savoury and sweet filled breads, but I decided on a ham and cheese bun and the classic char siu lunch bun, a yardstick by which these bakeries can be measured. In the queue to pay a walnut cookie in the display cabinet shouted out eat me, and that too was added to my haul. Eating wise I would say that they as good as most Hong Kong bakeries, though not as good as the very best, for the UK it is excellent. The tasty walnut cookie was not the ones I'm used to, I think they must have ditched the lard that is traditionally used, the cookie being much lighter, crisper and probably a lot healthier. Would visit again if in the area.
