Small but exciting local art gallery, it has a wide range of travelling exhibitions usually with free entry, plus a broad collection of pop art of its own. The gallery has recently been done up and its always reinventing itself to attract a new audience. They are community focused, they run art classes for kids, hold artist talks, and all sorts of projects they publish a brochure which lists upcoming events and classes. The cafe upstairs is excellent with a wide range of foods at reasonable prices and its always much calmer there than any standard highstreet cafe. The local ticket office is there too, so I'm often in there buying tickets for local gigs and events.

Spent a few hours here, exhibitions were very good, loved the puppets from 1970s children's TV. Had coffee in morning and lunch in the cafe. Staff were all very helpful. Website had mentioned exhibition of Gainsborough painting but the staff said they only had two Gainsborough paintings One portrait on display, and a landscape in store which we could book to view.

Really enjoyed my visit. Lots to look at. Lots of information about every piece and very interesting local history pieces. Entrance is free. Cafe available for drinks and snacks. Toilets were clean. Definitely plan on a return visit.

I went for a specialist exhibition which was great. I looked at the rest....modern art not so good. Every exhibit used some sort of foam....reminded me of the foam you buy in a DIY store to mend holes. Wasn't allowed to touch it so can't say more. The artists had stuck statues etc into this foam stuff which was coloured. All exhibits followed the same design, and the tubes which fed the foam were still there. Victorian art, as expected however there were paintings interspersed among this which I found offensive

Lovely place to spend a few hours. Especially special exhibition of 80 years of puppets. Well worth a visit.
