The recent rebranding has put this Chip Shop on a par with all the other independent ones in the area - The difference in quality now is notable but as a consequence their pricing is on a par with competitors but this is understandable due to the better taste. This chip shop has been here for over 20 years and it's offering their best food & the shop will be here for another 20 years - it has an army of happy loyal regulars who can overlook the slight increase in price for the convenience of keeping their local chippy, Maria has worked here for years and is always nice even in the busy times so regardless of a couple of negative reviews get yourself down here and make your own mind up . If you want cheap chips go to Heron !
I previously reviewed this place after a bad experience. I have been back to the wolds chippy again today and Maria has definitely restored my confidence in this fish bar. The food was top notch and reminded me why I have been going to the wolds chippy for over 6 years. Thank you Maria, can’t wait to see more positive reviews coming in for you. I had cod and chips, the cod was cooked perfectly with crispy golden batter and it tasted fresh. The chips were cooked well. Also great to see the portions are back to how they were. I will be returning for more. Sorry no pictures, we ate it all before we had chance
This place seems hit and miss a lot of the time. Sadly, it seems to be miss more often than not. Chips either not cooked properly or you can taste the fact they've been sat there for a while. Been going to this place for years used to work there but I won't be going back now after the manager tried to refuse my money then continue to embarrass me while others were in the shop. Pricing is about average for the area but the food is not. Not the worst place in the area but no where near the best Edit due to owner response - I fully understand the need to be sure that the money given is 100% real, although I've actually never heard or seen a counterfeit pound coin myself. The manager told me she didn't want to accept it due to it being dirty AFTER embarrassing me in front of customers who were actually members of my sons school, which Maria did not know I knew them I used to come in daily for my son as chippy chips are one of his safe foods he is autistic. Sadly, this was not the first 'problem' I've had here but it was the final straw. Maria was always good to me so not sure what happened. I stopped working there around 4 years ago due to personal issues. I wish the new owners all the best and hope you can return the shop to its former glory
I have just been to this chippy and I had a large cod and chips. The fish was juicy and crispy and was cooked spot on. The staff are both kind friendly and very polite. Would highly recommend.Food: 5/5
Since new ownership, the place has gone down hill. The prices have shot right up, yet the quality remains average. With there being some excellent chip shops in the local area, you'd expect this place to try and be competitive, but apparently not. I recommend George's or the Cods Scallop for an excellent fish and chips! Prices are about the same but the quality is MUCH better!
Just had small fish, chips and mushy peas for the first time from the New Wolds Chippy and it was the BEST fish and chip supper I have had in a long time! It even beats the fish and chips we have had at the seaside! Good size portion, beautifully cooked fish and perfect batter that melts in your mouth. Very friendly service aswell. Would recommend to everyone!
I’ve never made a bad review before but this was that bad it was insulting. £17 for 2 doner meat and chips, and I’m not picky or over reacting but this was disgusting. The chips were not cooked and dripping in fat and oil. The meat tasted awful, it was either in tiny bits that were black and burnt or huge thick chunks that was that pale it looked like pork. On top all of this within all the bits was 2 sharp red bits of plastic, this could have been very dangerous if swallowed which pushed me to write this review. We tried this chip shop as it was the last one open in our area , but we won’t be returning and making that mistake again.
Fabulous fish and chips Arrived to a busy shop on Good Friday. Placed quite a big order including a gluten free fish and chips . Nothing was too much trouble for the staff . Polite and welcoming. Beautifully clean restaurant. The fish was delicious and very reasonably priced .
Lovely haddock and chips. A bit pricey though. Pleasant service with a smile.Food: 5/5
I have visited a number of chip shops in the area and this one is by far the best. The food is exceptional and the staff are really friendly. Excellent serviceFood: 5/5
