One of my colleagues recommends George’s to us and she said it is one of the best local fish and chip shops in Nottingham... We ordered 1 large and 1 small ocean wild cod and we got to choose between beans, peas or gravy ...!! The fish was still hot and crispy when we arrived home !! Excellent taste of the cod,, and the chips was not oily.. Onion Gravy was smooth and not too thick!! Overall... I was so full and enjoyed my meal very much Recommend this shop if you visit West Bridgford...!!
Getting sick and tired of being ripped off by Georges. Victims of their own success they no longer care if they ever did about customers, only profits. - Each time i go in and order fish and chips i always ask the young person behind the counter to make sure i get proper chips and not the leftover hard bits, but i'm ignored. I AM PAYING FOR CHIPS NOT THE RUBBISH YOU HAVE LEFT OVER - I'M GOING PUT THIS OUT NATIONWIDE SO EVERYONE IS AWARE OF THE WAY GEORGES OPERATES, A BUSINESS THAT CHARGES OVER THE TOP PRICES FOR LOWER QUALITY FOOD WITH A CUSTOMER POORER SERVICE! Considering what they charge and the quality of their food, i would rate them a 5/10 - I now go elsewhere where the food is better and cheaper!!
Not a local, treat for daughter and I. Paid £14 for fish and chips, went large on the chips shouldnt have bothered seem to get more on the standard portion that where being sold. very disappointed. Will not come again. Can staff also keep their squabbles out side of work time. There was an atmosphere and that was the staff issues.Food: 2/5
Excellent food again. Cod on the expensive side but that's the world now. Had cod, chips and peas x 2 but to their credit I struggled to finish mine. Might be worth doing a meal for two deal?Food: 5/5
The fish and chips were tasty, the mushy peas were good too, they even offered mint sauce.. I must say though, we were very VERY disappointed in the size of the 'large' fish... It clearly wasn't large by any standards. It was the size of a mini fish. For the expensive prices they charged, getting a small fish was mean.
This used to be a great fish & chip shop but it has declined over the past 3 or 4 years which is very disappointing. The food is disappointing- both in terms of quality and quantity but it is also quite expensive, which is no longer justifiable when the quality is lacking. It used to have some great staff who were very attentive but that has also changed, now employing people who appear to just go through the motions in a pedestrian fashion.
Just spent over £19 on the poorest fish & chips. Fish was undercooked and cold chips were dry, hard and cold. Coming to George's for fish & chips use to be a treat as they were always the most expensive but usually worth the extra. Today's meal was poor and a complete waste of hard earned money. I won't be returning again.
Wow! Don’t know where to start. Large chips, was not very large and very greasy, the box was drenched, ordered small fish, which they referred to as “mini” and it was, pie was doughy from the microwave……the curry sauce dribbled all over the plate and was victim to the microwave as well….
Portion sizes are so hit and miss, more miss than hit. Very measly and I’m still hungry after ordering large. It’s so disappointing. It’s the only chip shop that serves portions and I’m still hungry afterwards. I’m definitely not greedy either. I’m not going to go back. It’s happened too many times
Changing my previous negative review! New fryer = hot and lovely chips! I'd say the chips are much nicer now too.Food: 5/5
