As an update to the review I posted recently which you can read below the update. Update - Following my most recent attempt to book an appointment I have decided that my only option is to move to another practice. I contacted the surgery multiple times to arrange an appointment but it was simply not possible unless I cancelled work plans and took days off to accommodate at short notice. The receptionist’s response was ‘we can only offer what is available’, fair enough and they were only doing their job. I need to arrange an appointment but simply can’t do that in advance on a date that I know I can commit to. Surely this is what most patients want to do? I have a condition that I consider non-urgent as it is not debilitating, but it is a concern and I need to see my GP. I finished the call stating that it appears my only option is to move to another practice as I am unable to get a suitable appointment at this practice. To be honest I was left feeling exasperated and upset as I know I need to see my GP to seek an opinion and treatment if needed. Another individual this practice has lost through a wholly inadequate approach to patient care. Initial review - I tend to concur with the majority of reviews here that the service provided by Wokingham Medical Centre is appalling. I appreciate that surgeries are under increased pressure these days but even dealing with the basics seems to be beyond the capabilities of this practice. I’ll touch upon just one of the most important things you’d expect from a GP practice, being able to book an book an appointment - You call the surgery at 8:00 am as you know you will be in a queue for at least 15 minutes if there is enough space in the call queue. Usually you listen to the pre-recorded message and then are informed that the call cannot be completed, so you call again and repeat, until you either lose patience or you finally get through. This could take anywhere up to an hour. If you are one of the lucky few to get an appointment that day then great, otherwise you have the choice to go to the surgery and join the queue for the sit and wait clinic. If you happen to work or have other commitments, as we tend to do, then this is not a practical solution - if you are so ill that you can’t work or do anything else then at least you can get yourself to the surgery and sit and wait. If you call later in the day you will be told there are no appointments. If you ask to book an advance appointment you will be told you can’t unless you do this online - to get registered for online access is another excruciating process in my experience. This is just my experience of trying to get an appointment. If I went into the other bad experiences I have had with this practice once you actually talk to a GP and you are in their care then I would be here all day. I personally believe that since the Wokingham practices have merged the service now provided is an absolute disgrace. I do hope things improve, but judging by the terrible reviews over the past few years I am not expecting this to happen any time soon.

I booked an appointment via internet which was easy to do and pretty prompt. Was seen by an excellent doctor and went away fully satisfied. But I do know booking a same day appointment can be frustrating at times. However, you always get one if you really need to be seen. We must not forget that the NHS is strechted to the limit. And that this is not the doctors' fault!

9-5 drone form fillers that do not in any way give a monkeys about patients, just get in line, take a seat and sit with a doctor that couldn't give a s*** while he/she googles your symptoms for the recommended drug, then take your prescription to the conveniently well placed pharmacy where the nice pretty young Pharmacist (drug Dealer in disguise) will hand you those pills that we did so well without for thousands of years as a species on this planet..... This Medical centre is an absolute joke. if they are considering this to be an improvement to the community of Wokingham... then you are wrong.. if the Medical centre cant manage the population it currently has, then how does it plan to manage the enormous and overwhelming population it is about to receive once all the new houses being built flourish with new families.... this goes for a lot of local services and infrastructure.. i seriously cant see this redevelopment at such a pace actually working out for the good....

Terrible patient service. Asked for a GP report for insurance, has taken over three months with no updates from them, me chasing and insurance companies chasing. When I call to ask, no one knows what is going on or can give a clear answer. Now just been told I'll have to pay a fee which is the first I've heard of it and I still don't know if the report is actually done. This on top of being on hold for at least 30 mins each time I call, rarely able to get an appointment when needed and when you do get one, the doctors are always late, with no apology! Would not recommend.

Since the merge of the two GP surgeries it is near impossible to even get through to their front desk, let alone book an appointment. When you call you're told it's not possible to connect your call, and if you are lucky enough to get through you're usually placed at the back of the line with over 20 people waiting before you. No matter what your situation the front desk aren't very helpful. When trying to book an appointment for my 7 month old I was told I couldn't and would have to wait in a sit and wait clinic. It's ridiculous. The website says you can book online but never have any slots. The maternity info on the page is incorrect and the amount of time it takes for a referral or for information to be processed is a joke. If, on the off chance, you get through you cannot book an appointment without the doctor calling you back at some random point in the day trying to assess whether you need to come in. They don't even consider that you may be at work! Honestly you're better off at the urgent care centre or a and e.
