Windmills offers practical and certificated training to young people with learning disabilities within a warm, friendly community cafe
Windmills is a community focused food, drinks & catering business with a reputation for quality, healthy food and family friendly customer service. We aim to generate funds through our Cafe to invest in young people with learning disabilities.
Windmills recruits 16-25 year olds with learning disabilities into their traineeship programmes which have been developed to strengthen life and social skills as well as provide mainstream qualifications and meaningful work experience. We ensure that our trainees take every opportunity to transfer their skills to their home environment increasing their confidence and independence.
Sir Ian Wood said, "Today in Scotland we have... young people, not in work, not in education, waking up each morning wondering if their community has any need for them."
Many young people with learning disabilities feel exactly like that! Without meaningful employment, volunteering or training opportunities, young people with learning disabilities are likely to suffer isolation, low self esteem and often depression. Windmills provide an exciting and engaging environment which allows communication, socialisation and promotes independent living.
