The sad end to one of Britain's iconic speedway tracks, I last saw racing there in 1991, prior to the Wimbledon Dons being transferred to Eastbourne! Fabulous memories, of great racing and miIitary precision presentation! I still think of the late Tommy Jansson, who graced the track in the 70s. I am not an AFC Wimbledon supporter, but I am pleased that their new ground is to be on this site, just a stone's throw from their ancestral home . Given one star because of the state it is in now.

Sadiq Khan was elected Mayor of London and one of his themes was more social housing. There were 2 competing options to renew Wimbledon Stadium. Option 1, Bring back Football, no social Housing. Like London needs another footy stadium ?? Option 2, new Dog track +550 social houses. The former mayor Boris , called in the original planning decision made by the local Council to go for footy. At the time it looked a dodgy decision as the same Council many years earlier booted out Wimbledon AFC and more importantly no social Housing. What changed ? The filthy lucre of Football, local Politicians who like filthy lucre scenarios and a new Mayor who simply behaved like Pontias Pilot.. que Sera Sera...

The home of banger racing. Car boots for ordinary london folk. Once a fine speedway team. Years of our history about to be demolished for sake of more homes to house people from other lands. Pure greed once again. Last of its kind. These places will never replaced. Once a place to shelter during the wars from bombing. This is how we thank our ancestors. I dont support greyhound racing before the do gooders jump on board. Thanks for the memories.

Back in the day was a fantastic place to watch Speedway and Bangers. Unfortunately in it's later life the place was run down, old and needed renovating and a bit of TLC. Shame the place is gone as it was one of the better stadiums Speedway, Greyhounds and Bangers had when it was run properly.

Venue closed. Being demolished. Sadly gone to be replaced with football stadium and shops & flats. The car boot sales were brilliant. Customers could get some great bargains. Sellers could earn £££s and recycle unwanted items. I've not found a local replacement.
