Wild Duck Inn
"After a major refurbishment, The Wild Duck in Ewen will be re-opening its doors in 2020. Standing on its own and very much a local, this is old Cotswolds at its best with 21 individually-designed bedrooms. Geared towards shooting, there will be a private dining room for shooting parties plus a great patio terrace with a BBQ so grab a plateful of delicious Best of British meat and tuck in. A picture of crisp-edged rustic perfection, this is an 18th-century bolthole where you are guaranteed a good time – prop yourself up at the bar and talk to a local farmer whilst listening to great music. The whole property can also be booked out for a lovely celebration. And with Kemble station only five minutes away, there’s no excuse for not making it."

service was slow and the staff seemed disinterested. We asked for a few minutes more to discuss our food and after about 25 minutes we had to ask to order. The menu has errors on it and is written poorly. The food was bland/poor. I had the cheese pancakes and my partner had fried chicken covered in green beans sides are £4.50. The scotch egg was lovely though. The beer garden is stunning and we would go back for a drink, but we will not be dining here again.
Despite it being the Wednesday before Christmas and fully booked restaurant we had an excellent meal. The service was quick and efficient, the menu selection was interesting but included some good pub standards. Very old worldly with a welcoming open fire. A thoroughly good old style English pub.
Massively overpriced. Staff were friendly, but weren't attentive at all. Side plates and cutlery were dirty. In a portion of chips, there was a pea at the bottom. Both the ladies and gents toilets had empty toilet rolls on the floor, and the bins were overflowing. However, the steak I ordered came fairly quickly, and was cooked well, the bearnaise sauce was very good and they have a good selection of beers.
5 of us had a wonderful lunch today. The food and service was 5 star, and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. All the mains were well cooked and delicious, and the desserts were "to die for". We had our 4 year old grand daughter with us, and there was a special menu for her, and it was also a colouring and quiz sheet. She was fully entertained for the 2 hours we were there. This was a very special end to a few days at the Cottswold Water Park; we were well set up before our trip home. Thank you.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Starting with an excellent choice of craft beers, we arrived without a booking but were accommodated splendidly. My Gloucester old spot chop with pea and mint purée also came on a pulse and potato broth and was splendid!
Very nice Sunday lunch. Belly pork was lovely. Fish and chips enormous and the roast beef was really tender. Beer was very good too. Stroud OPA was really good. A little pricey hence only 4 stars but couldn't fault the food really.
Fantastic meal here mid-week whilst on holiday nearby. Menu had a good range of options steak tartare was delicious! and each course was cooked to perfection. Bit more upmarket than your usual pub-grub but worth paying the extra for. Certainly felt very full afterwards and will go again!
Staff were very friendly but were slow and not attentive. We tried to order a lime and soda twice but it never ended up arriving and it was still on the bill. The scotch egg was nice aand warm as was the bread, but the Chicken Milanese was very dry and not nice to eat.
Classic Cotswolds charm and grub! Tasty food with a welcoming smile. + steeped in idyllic charm + tip notch food + great drink choices + very friendly staff who were willing to assist - was absolutely rammed on a Sunday so be warned. - book ahead and expect to wait!
The Wild Duck inn is a wonderful attractive old property that you would find hard to resist a visit to for a drink or meal. We did a Sunday walk along the Thames Path from Lower Mill Estate so were quite hungry by the time we reached Ewen. The price of £14.95 seemed a bit much for a Sunday roast, but we were on holiday and thought we were eating somewhere that looked a bit special, plus there was no other pub nearby. So we took the plunge and ordered 2 Roast Beef's expecting "something special" but.... when it arrived it looked no different to the Carvery's we have regularly at our local priced at £5.99. The food went cold quickly, probably due to the fact that we were eating outside but the roast potatoes were as hard as snooker balls! Nearly broke a tooth trying to chew one. We complained to the staff who were apologetic and offered us a complimentary sweet to make up for it. The sweet turned out to be the delight of the day thank goodness. Think twice before paying the above price for a very average meal.
