Welcome to the online home of The White Lion, Childer Thornton. Here you will find all of the latest information, opening hours and the very latest offers. In the summer months, you can enjoy our enclosed beer garden and let the children play in the outdoor play area. Don't forget to leave some room for our homemade and traditional tasty food! Sue, Ken and all of their team will always give you a warm welcome here at The White Lion. Food is served Monday - Thursday 12 - 8 Friday and Saturday 12 - 9 and Sundays 12 - 6.

Extremely upset! Booked a family lunch for 14 people, with 3 weeks notice to celebrate my son's 21st Birthday. Only to turn up today to find only 3 small tables had been reserved with not enough space or seats for everyone to sit let alone eat. We were told there was no where to move us too except to the outside seating areas, or we could wait until the other 5 diners had finished and have their tables, but had to leave by 4pm and this was at 2:30. 3 of these people had only just started their main meal. We declined both offers as even with heaters we did not want to sit outside and it was unrealistic to expect us all to have ordered and eaten 2 courses by 4pm. The manager was called and was totally unapologetic and made me feel I was being unreasonable expecting enough space to have been reserved. I was told we could all eat in the space provided as they usually fit this many people in this space. When I mentioned it was booked for a 21st I was told people have birthdays everyday and that it was irrelevant that we booked 3 weeks earlier. He did say that we could have a discount if we stayed but this was pointless as there was not enough space or time to enjoy a meal. To say I am upset is an understatement we had this planned for months paid for taxis so we could all celebrate together only to be left extremely disappointed. We will not be back.
Beautiful little pub, very cosy and popular with the locals. Food was amazing and Donna and her team were amazing, all so friendly and couldn't fault the service from anyone. Highly recommend for a perfect local pub, with amazing food, great drinks, wonderful staff and the locals were welcoming as well.
Good food and reasonably priced. I had T bone steak and the wife had salmon. I like my steak medium to well done so not dry but cooked all the way through this was done to perfection and yes as you can see by the pics, I like ketchup on my chips. Wife had salmon which again was perfect. Can get a bit busy, so definitely book ahead. Plenty of parking So no worries there. Only downer on the night was one member of staff who was a tad miserable. Not sure what was wrong but hope she recovers because other than that, it was an excellent dining out experience. Will definitely be going again.
Came for my mother's 65th birthday on Thursday evening and wow I was very impressed with the pub what a gorgeous place, we was greater by Donna who was fantastic very engaging and down to earth. We all had starters black pudding stack mushrooms fishcake and prawn cocktail for the birthday girl she was very impressed with the amount if prawns, my Stilton mushrooms where unreal I had a ribeye for main which again was unreal cooked to perfection. The kids had chips cheese and gravy and loved every bit with ice cream after. Unfortunately we never had any room left for dessert but will deffo be back for the famous roast they do and hopefully fit a dessert in then.
Turned up to our booking bang on time, was then told to wait by the bar where we were stood completely in the way of everybody, we were then showed to our table, food arrive fast but unfortunately there was long brown hair in my girlfriends food she’s blonde I then brought this up to a member of staff who took the hair looked and it and said “can’t even see anything” with a terrible attitude we then said we don’t want the meal replacing as we had been put off for Linda to then mutter something under her breath as she walked off, absolutely no customer service in that place whatsoever.
Gorgeous old fashioned little pub but sadly the food was a real let down. Very soggy batter on the fish, staff very unpleasant, no sense of customer care. Very disappointing indeedFood: 1/5
Found this little pub by chance, really good food and a home made rice pudding that I remember as kid, nice atmosphere,and the staff were really friendly, tried to back again but fully booked and no room at the inn, gutted.Food: 5/5
Lunch deal on a Friday 2 course for £12.50. Nothing fancy but wasn't expecting gourmet for 12.50.Food: 4/5
Great traditional style pub. Just been for lunch there, excellent food and service, friendly staff made us feel very welcome. Would highly recommendFood: 5/5
