One of the tastiest pub food we had. Tried bull's head foolow for first peak District dinner and felt it was alright, good but could do much better with the burger. Then second dinner here at white lion - finally up to what we looked for. Lamb shank well slow cooked with carefully made potato stuffing; the beef shin pie was beyond the regular, full of tender slow cooked beef, with well made red wine sauce! Staff were also so genuine and kind..you can feel it. The cocktail could be better presented, could do with more rum options, but already glad they even got a cocktail menu..
Great local pub with friendly staff. We were a party of five who enjoyed every bite of our lunch which was excellent value. I had the beef shin & red wine pie which was a good choice, the beef melted in the mouth and was simply delicious. Unfortunately we didn’t have time for dessert which was a shame as they looked good!
Nice and friendly welcome. Good beer. Lots of room. The menu looked good but we only stopped in for a swift pint while out walking. Four not five stars only because the pub wasn't as cozy and comfortable as the one a couple of hundred yards away. This feels more restaurant than pub..... which I guess it is.
Very friendly pub. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Had Sunday lunch here last week. Absolutely delicious. Also had 2 pizza takeaway with a garlic, pesto and mozzarella bread. Really reasonably priced and prob the best pizzas we’ve ever had.
it only took us 10 minutes walked from Thornbridge hall gardens to the pub on thursday. we arrived 12:15pm and few tables had already been reserved. so recommended to book tables in advance to avoid disappointment. good quality food serves in the pub. large choices in menu. pub has free wifi. seems didnot have its car park, so parking on street.
We stopped here twice, either side of a 10mile hike. First was a coffee and an ice cream before we started, second was for a meal after the hike. Even though we hadn't booked we were able to get a table for long enough to matter. This place is definitely popular, so if you can for sure book it first. Anyhow, the staff were fabulous, friendly and very accommodating. The food was delicious, and from a good selection. Not too large though that you spent time simply choosing. There is outside parking down a narrow road to one side, but there appears to be plenty of space. We will definitely be revisiting next time we are anywhere near Great Longstone, or even Monsal Head!
It is a few years since we're last there. It has retained it's quality. A good ambience, good food, and good service. Book a table before as it is popular. Dog and child friendly. Good parking behind.
Great pub, service and outstanding food.
Cosy modern pub in a quaint village with near lots of walks. The Sunday roast was brilliant. They are dog friendly and have blankets for furry friends
Very friendly good service, the food looked good, we didn't eat there. Busy for Sunday lunch do the food must be good
