Story

Built in 1681, The White Horse & Griffin perfectly captures the heritage, ambience and essence of Whitby. A stone’s throw from the foot of the famous 199 Abbey steps, the bar, restaurant and 10 character ensuite bedrooms transport visitors to a bygone world of explorers, smugglers and gallons of alcohol. Open daily from 8am, the restaurant has a reputation for great food served in a relaxed, unfussy style.

The best risotto I have ever eaten. The loveliest staff and amazing food. Can’t wait to return!! We stayed in Whitby for two nights and ate here 3 times breakfast too they allow dogs in and accommodate for every need. LOVE & thanks for having us.
Great place friendly comfortable and good food
Such a shame about our recent stay at the white horse and Griffin. We return each year, but it appears to be struggling at present with basic hygiene. The hotel appears to be very run down and dirty. Unfortunately we awoke with bed bug bites over our arms and head. It was uncomfortable and we won’t be returning.
Fabulous food evening meal and breakfast. Lovely service and the dog was very welcome. Only stayed 1 night had a lovely night and day.
Normally very good but this last visit.. sticky tables with cold food and tough beef our deserts where RANK. Give it a miss for a while..
