Wheatsheaf

About

Traditional English pub, which prides itself on fine real ales and quality home cooked food.

Story

The Wheatsheaf is a traditional pub located in the heart of Oakham. In winter there are log fires and for the summer there is our Award winning garden to enjoy. The Wheatsheaf has a range of real ales with a guest ale and a guest cider that change regularly to introduce new real ales to our customers. There is a restaurant area for lunches and dinner - although it is also possible to eat in the bar area and garden. The menu is updated regularly with seasonal dishes with a 'Specials' board that is changed weekly. Our meat is supplied from a local butchers and our fruit and vegetables come from the local greengrocers - we try and source as much as possible from local suppliers. Reservations can be made and are advisable especially in the evenings and for the popular Sunday Lunches.

The Wheatsheaf is not only located in the heart of Oakham but is also part of the heart of the local community. We have a range of different events that take place through out the year - monthly charity quiz, pub cricket, 5 a side football, petanque, live music nights - are just a few examples. Every one is welcome so please ask at the bar on how to join in!

We also televise a number of special sporting events - for example the World Cup (football and rugby), Cheltenham Festival, the 6 Nations - details of any upcoming events are listed in the events section of our Facebook page and regularly updated.

Lovely meal in a great pub. Very busy but staff exceptional. ThankyouFood: 5/5
Our party of 4 had a wonderful evening meal here during our short break in Oakham. The landlady was lovely with a great sense of humour and our meals were all delicious, particularly the Sirloin steaks which were excellent quality. We had a wonderful evening and it was one of the highlights of our visit to the area. We will definitely return.
We were recommended to come here by another establishment in the town as sadly they weren't able to do food until later in the day. As soon as we entered the Wheatsheaf it felt welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious and homemade. The service was very good and even though it got busier during our visit, noticed a calm and controlled way the staff were. Our thanks goes to Kerry who is the Landlady and will definitely return here when we come to Oakham.
Beautiful pub with garden setting and plenty of sun/shade options. We ate from lunch menu and found everything delicious and fresh. Was so nice to have real crackling with my pork roast and cream sauce for veggies was to die for. My wife a vegetarian, had the nut roast which she said was fantastic. Service was excellent and my non-alcoholic “wheat beer” was one of the nicest nons I’ve had.
The Wheatsheaf in Oakham is a traditional pub with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Dan and his team always go the extra mile to make you feel at home. They have a great selection of real ales, including guest ales that change regularly, as well as a menu of fresh, home-cooked food. Whether you're stopping by for a pint or a bite to eat, The Wheatsheaf is a great choice.
Stopped off here for a quick drink and they have this gorgeous hidden garden out the back that’s a complete sun trap, it was gorgeous! We ordered bacon, Brie and cranberry baguettes and they were honestly the best I’ve ever had, delicious!
Overall probably the best pub in town. Whether you are local or visiting the Wheatsheaf is a really decent pub in the centre of town. Great food every time I've eaten here and decent value for Oakham. Service is usually spot on whether eating or just in for a drink. Atmosphere is generally great but can get busy particularly around weddings at the Church over the road. When it's busy it can be a bit loud but most of the time it's really lovely. A fantastic beer garden for any hot and sunny days we might get! Great food, beer, service, atmosphere and a lovely garden to boot makes this arguably the best pub in town
5 plus!! My wife and I had a super, relaxing long lunch in the beautiful secret garden. It was well worth our one hour journey and dog friendly too!!Food: 5/5
We were unable to get food as all the chefs had holiday booked at the same time. The staff were friendly and helpful and it seems like a nice little pub.Service: 5/5
