It was my lucky day as I walked by the castle today. There was a big Medieval show with amazing history enthusiasts. The entrance was free, but the place deserves your generous donations. The narrations were all in character and it's the best place for families to spend half a day there with the kids. The costumes were beautiful and actors were very knowledgeable with history. Big shout to Birmingham Museums, Stronghold Re-enactments, and Up An At Em History for the amazing show.
Great if you can get in. Only open for events and bookings at the moment, otherwise there is a viewing platform which gives a limited view of the castle ruins.
Disappointing, not really wort the visit unless you happen to be in the street anyway. It looks as if there could be something that was worth exploring if reasonable access to the site was available, however the public are only allowed onto a grassed viewing platform and the prison style mesh fencing that surrounds it is so tight that it is not even possible to get the lens of a decent camera through to take a photo, a bit of a gap at eye level could surely be arranged. It seems the public are not welcome to fully enjoy this piece of local history. A single view of the footprint to foundation level of what was once an important manor house is available. Some information boards are present but no proper car parking or any other visitor facilities. It looks like the guardians of this site Birmingham Museums and Art Galleries? are determined that it should be unsullied by council tax payers.
Went for an open day and they had a falconry display. Good little show with such a cosey crowd. The 'castle' is pretty war and the marshals are very concerned about erosion from people climbing over it. They had the little centre open as well with colouring and dress up for the kids.
Need to check website for opening site as infrequent. Wonderful remains and a hidden gem of Birmingham heritage.
I've lived in Brum all my life and have just discovered & visited the remains of a large fortified manor house in South Birmingham. I really enjoyed the guided tour and the history of the site. Look out for the regular one a month weekend tours and occasional open daysVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes

The ruins are quite small and hidden within a housing estate. There are a few information boards around but nothing much that is too interactive for people coming to visit.
Great place to visit on one of the open daysVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
