You must check out this place while in Newcastle. Delicious coffee, even better cake and great service. All surrounded by books and pleasant silence, which allows you to rest in such a large city. The old building, full of history, is, of course, complementary. Coffee in this place is a must! As for the bookstore itself, you will find literally everything in it ... We highly recommend this place and we will probably come back one day!
Good stuff: Lady at the till was really friendly we went at 5pm yesterday! Manager was really friendly too. Well organised. The main floor has a few ‘Buy One Get One Half Price’ tables, each a different genre, a good ‘New and Reviewed’ section, and a great selection of general fiction and popular non-fiction. I believe upstairs has your poetry and photography etc. Central location in the city. Slightly disappointing stuff: When you walk in you might accidentally join the checkout queue as there’s not much space to enter the shop! Downstairs was designated to Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Kids, but the kids section took over most of the floor. There wasn’t much space for tables in the Fantasy and Sci-Fi sections obviously not the fault of the staff, just restrictions of the space, so there weren’t really any deals or offers available for these books. The section was just very small as the YA section took up one corner as well. Quite small as far as Waterstones go!
Lovely 3 storey building with wide selection of books and other items such as board games and puzzles. Cosy cafe situated upstairs and plenty of seating to browse your wares.
Lovely tailored environment for reading and friendly staff all-round in the cafe. Amazing assortment of books and beats buying a book off amazon. Could spend a day in there just reading and browsing. A bit chilly though and more seating could be available as it tends to get and stay very busy throughout the day.
Excellent large bookshop. No electronic doors here! The original victorian doors and features are still present in the shop. The upstairs is a cafe which adds a lot of charm to the place. I looked round for half an hour, no one bothered me, it was very pleasant with a massive selection of books.
Friendly and helpful staff and several floors to browse, there's a small lift in there too should you wish to go to the higher floors and can't use the stairs. They also sell boardgames and have great sales too.
Fantastic book shop. Lots of floors full of books and to top it off it’s in a beautiful historic building. Love this place.
Great book shop always busy. Good atmosphere. Great coffee at a decent price. Always warm and welcoming on a cold day
Very busy due to first day of sale with lots of books half price. Staff very friendly and helpful. Came in to buy 2 books but left with 2 bags full!
Situated in one of the City's stunning buildings, the books are housed over Three floors and cover every subject. There is also a particularly pleasant and relaxing cafe. Lift access to all floors.
