I called up Wards garage to have a repair done after a bolt had snapped off my rear shock absorber. The receptionist was friendly over the phone and booked me in for an appointment. On arrival one of the mechanics who seemed like a nice fella asked me to leave my car in for the day to see what could be done. A few hours later the mechanic I had met called me on the phone and said "It's not looking good" and that the whole rear axle needed replacing! I found this strange as I was pretty certain it was a straight forward repair that just needed a new bolt threaded through to secure the shock absorber in place. I asked how much this would cost and was quoted £700-800!!!! My car is a W reg and is a small basic hatchback and is barely even worth that much. I told him I would come to collect the car later that day. I went elsewhere and got the repair done for just £150. It's clear that Wards garage use scare tactics and technical terms to carry out expensive and unnecessary repairs. I wouldn't recommend this garage to anyone.

Landrover was due a MOT but horn did not work, they said just book it in as may need a wack to get working, so I did book it in for the next day, went to get the car when started drops of diesel were dripping from the front, phoned them and said may as well cancel as both issue's are a MOT failure, they advised to still take it to them for the MOT as could just be a pipe, my friend and I dropped it to them, she heard me say again about the issues. Got a call later that day saying it was going to cost £1,500 for the diesel pump to be replaced, I said leave it, went to pick car up, paid £52 for the MOT test to say failed on Horn and diesel leak.....Easiest £52 they earned, no reason to why with the horn .. also a lady before me was paying for her repairs and was furious when they said £180 she said the car was only worth £300 and no way she would of agreed to the work as was told it was going to be about £80 .....

Quite possibly the best garage I have used, I wish I knew about them sooner - I would have saved a fortune. Completely accommodating, I have used them several times, and have never felt taken advantage of. Thoroughly recommended, a great alternative to the main dealers and much cheaper.

I cant praise Wards highly enough. I have spent a few years searching for the right garage - somewhere you can trust that treats you with respect. Also you get what you pay for in my view - they do an excellent job and charge you a fair price which is all you can ask. All the staff are lovely, especially the lady on reception (I am ashamed to say I dont know her name!).

As a family we have used Wards to service all of our cars including my classic MG. Their service over the years has always been friendly, cost effective and efficient. I look upon Wards as the old fashioned auto engineers, because in addition to the usual servicing they have also fabricated parts for my MG. Well like most of us we only seem to write a review when we have a complaint, but for once I would like to write a good review especially concerning Wards, albeit well overdue. Recently we had cause to test their good nature, my Italian brother-in-law's car developed a rather nasty fault on the morning he was due to return via ferry back to Tuscany. We contacted Wards and somehow they were able to fit the car into their busy schedule. Not only was the fault located and fixed, but Carlo made his ferry. He wanted me to say a particular thank you to the receptionist, Karen, for her courtesy and good humour and left me this message for her. "Karen Mille grazie, sei gentilissima."
