Really lovely place we found accidentally when visiting a relative. Amazing food and coffee and cake! Lovely friendly staff and fast service. Highly recommended
I have been to The Village Tea Room several times and had some delicious food there but unfortunately we had a really negative experience there today We ordered afternoon tea for 3. I was very specific on the phone about 2 people not eating fish I subsequently checked this with someone else in the office to make sure it wasn’t me and they heard me clearly state 2 non-fish When we arrived we were told where to sit and they took our order. The afternoon tea platter arrived and had 4 quarters of salmon sandwiches on. I went up to the counter and said it should’ve been no fish to which they replied they thought it was 1 non-fish eater but would bring me another sandwich. This took around 10 mins to come which was fine but was shoved on the table with bad grace. The quality of the sandwiches was good, plenty of filling and tasty, albeit quite small portions. The amount of jam and cream for the scones was insufficient for 3 people so again we went up and asked for some more cream and also a pot of tea because despite the tea being unlimited at no point did anyone come over, check we were ok, or ask if we wanted a refill. 15 minutes later no tea. We then realised that one of the cakes on the top layer was missing and there was only 2 for 3 people. We also weren’t provided with spoons for the shot glass custard item. I asked the lady for this and she brought the missing item and spoons over in incredibly bad grace. Her attitude made us feel like we were lying about the item being missing. Most of the food was nice but the amount for the price was poor value. Interestingly it wasn’t just us getting a very negative vibe from the staff or being surprised at the portion size. The people next to us were also commenting on how overpriced it was and asked if there was a refill on the stand. The response was “errm no. Order off the menu if you want more” They did which says a lot if you have paid £22 per head and are having to order more food! However, the most negative part was when we went to pay the bill. To our surprise we were charged for the extra sandwich. The reason given for this was that the 2 “extra” quarters of salmon sandwich were still eaten. Apparently it wasn’t acceptable for the fish eater to have eaten these, we should’ve left them on the plate. Hopefully they weren’t planning on serving them to the next person who ordered. At no point did they ask if we enjoyed our food which previously they have done. Our bill for 3 people was £69 which included the items pictured plus the crustless 4 sandwich quarters they provided which are not shown It is a shame, we are passionate about supporting local and were very pleased to have found a lovely local venue to visit regularly and use when we take clients for lunch. I fully appreciate that good quality produce costs money and I have no issue with paying that but the attitude generally coupled with the poor customer service and value for money in this case means I am unlikely to return.
Great food, lovely location. They seemed rather short-staffed when I visited: they operate table service but didn't have enough people to actually get the orders, meaning most tables queued at the counter to order, which the space isn't really set up for. This made everything somewhat chaotic - hopefully that's not the case all the time and I got unlucky. Other than that, the meal I had was delicious and reasonably priced - so I still feel overall it was deserving of 5 stars - I'll definitely be back.
I love the Village Tearoom. But everytime we go there, there is some issue. Today they had no oats and long delays on food. They are popular and the food I think is lovely. Haven't had it often because there's always an issue. They always seem so surprised to be busy. Why don't they plan better. They need to protect their reputation because its going down. Today all I had was a bad cup of tea. I doubt I'll be back..very disappointing to post this on my birthday
Booked in advance for afternoon tea for a Hen-Do. The tea room is a pretty place, nicely decorated and we had plenty of room. Staff were extremely helpful and kind, the food was lovely. They went the extra mile to help me out with my booking and on the day - thank you so much to the team! Your hard work was much appreciated :
Stopped off here on a walk with the dog, has a few outside tables in the front that can be used in fine weather. Food was good and reasonably price for the area. And the post box right outside the tea shop has a knitted hat..... well worth a picture.Food: 5/5
Food is good, when it arrives. Service is decidedly lacklustre and a little unprofessional. The young girls serving need to be a little more attentive and responsive. We waited 20 minutes to asked if we were ready to order, even though we tried to gesture to them several times. It was also too cold in the restaurant when the temperature outside was barely above freezing. We had to eat with our coats on. Please turn the heating on!
Went there after Gardners World Autunm fair. Absolutely fantastic will go again Parking: Just outside the tea room
This is a propa Tea Room Everything is homemade on site! From scones to cakes to quiches. This can be seen from the clear kitchen as you walk in. The staff were lovely, very friendly and warm. Great selection of teas to choose from. Amazing selection of cakes available, the difficulty is not choosing too many ha! We had a warm scone with propa cream, big warm and soft, Wow!! We popped in here by chance and thoroughly enjoyed our visit, we will definitely visit back here for lunch next time.
Had a lovely afternoon tea. Good choice of sandwiches and cakes, extra tea provided when asked at no extra charge. Very friendly. Parking: Free parking in car park a short walk from cafe.
